What To Do After You Buy a New Car

What To Do After You Buy a New Car

Buying a new car is an exciting time. You might be ready to start cruising around town and showing all of your friends your new ride. While showing off your car is a fun thing to do, there are some things that you never want to forget. Here is what you should do after you buy a new car.

Register the Car

All states require cars that are driven on the road to be registered. However, not all states have the same time frames for when they want you to get the registration completed. Depending on where you live, you have approximately 30-60 days from when you purchased the car. You'll be given a temporary tag from the dealer that you put in your rear window, which lets you know what day your temporary registration ends. If you fail to register your new car, you could face hefty fines or get your car impounded.

Purchase Insurance

Not all states require auto insurance Newark De, but you should never drive without it. Even a basic liability insurance policy could save you thousands in the long run if you're ever in a car accident.

Before you finalize an insurance plan, shop around and get policy prices from a few different companies. Prices can vary widely from company to company for the same size policies, so don't just accept the first price you're given. Also, ask about deals for combining your renters or home insurance policies with your auto. Many companies offer discounts when you have more than one policy with them.

Acquire Emergency Equipment

Accidents can happen at any time. Because of that, you never want to be without the tools you need in case something happens while you're out driving. Most experts recommend having a jack, lug wrench, and spare tire at the very least. Additionally, you'll be best protected when you have an emergency battery booster, in case you find your car doesn't want to start one day after you accidentally left the lights on.
