Why You Shouldn't Put Off Your Next Oil Change

Why You Shouldn't Put Off Your Next Oil Change

You rely on your car every day. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to get to work or school. This is why it’s so important to take good care of your car. If you’re due for an oil change, but you haven’t taken your car in yet, there are several reasons why you should make this routine car maintenance task a priority.

Overheating

When your engine starts to overheat, the temperature gauge on your dashboard will hit the highest point. Your engine may also start to smoke a little bit if you wait too long to stop your car. Overheating can happen when you wait too long to go to an auto repair shop Hammond LA and you drive around with old oil. When oil gets old, it creates more friction, which generates more heat under the hood.

Poor Engine Performance

Your oil is responsible for transporting debris in your car to the fuel filter. When your car’s oil gets old, it starts to get heavier. This can clog your car’s fuel filter, which makes it more difficult for your engine to function as it should.

Increased Mileage

If you drive your car regularly, you want to save as much money on gas as you can. But this might be harder to do if you do not get consistent oil changes. When your engine oil starts to deteriorate, it can build up on the metal surfaces of your car. As a result, your car will need more fuel to keep the engine running, which can make your vehicle less efficient overall.

If you drive a newer vehicle, your car will likely have a light go off on your dashboard that indicates you need an oil change. But if your car does not have a light like this, plan on getting your oil changed every time you drive a few thousand miles.
