The Audi Q2 Gets a Major Tech Upgrade: Touchscreen and Virtual Cockpit Included

The Audi Q2 is a compact crossover SUV that offers a sporty and stylish alternative to the conventional SUV. It combines the agility of a hatchback with the versatility of a utility vehicle, making it a perfect choice for urban drivers who want to stand out from the crowd.

But the Q2 is not just about looks. It also boasts some impressive technology features that make it a smart and connected car. In fact, the Q2 has recently received a major update that enhances its infotainment system with a touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit. These features not only improve the user experience but also the safety and performance of the Q2.

What is the touchscreen and how does it work?

The touchscreen is a 10.1-inch display that replaces the previous rotary pushbutton on the center console. It allows the driver to control the MMI navigation plus system, which is the most advanced version of Audi’s multimedia interface. The touchscreen has a high-resolution and responsive surface that recognizes gestures such as swiping and pinching. It also has haptic feedback, which means it vibrates slightly when a command is executed.

The touchscreen can be customized to suit the driver’s preferences and needs. It has six user profiles that can store up to 400 settings each, such as climate control, seat position, radio stations, and navigation destinations. The profiles can be accessed via the myAudi app on the driver’s smartphone, which also enables remote functions such as locking and unlocking the car, checking the fuel level, and preheating or cooling the interior.

The touchscreen also integrates with the Audi smartphone interface, which allows the driver to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to access their phone apps on the display. This way, the driver can use voice control or steering wheel buttons to make calls, send messages, play music, or use navigation apps without taking their eyes off the road.

What is the Audi virtual cockpit and how does it work?

The Audi virtual cockpit is a 12.3-inch display that replaces the traditional instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. It shows the driver all the relevant information they need while driving, such as the speed, the revs, the fuel consumption, the navigation directions, the traffic signs, and the driver assistance systems.

The Audi virtual cockpit has two view modes that can be switched by pressing the “View” button on the steering wheel. The classic mode shows the speedometer and the tachometer as large, round instruments, while the infotainment mode reduces them to small gauges and gives more space to the navigation map or other media content.

The Audi virtual cockpit can also be customized to show the driver’s preferred information. It has three configurable fields that can display different data, such as phone contacts, radio stations, trip computers, or sports displays. The driver can also choose from four color schemes to match their mood or the ambient lighting of the Q2.

What are the benefits of the touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit?

The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are not just fancy gadgets. They have real benefits for the driver and the passengers of the Q2. Here are some of them:

  • They make the Q2 more user-friendly and intuitive. The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are easy to use and understand, thanks to their clear and modern design, their fast and smooth operation, and their customizable and personalized options. They also reduce the number of physical buttons and knobs on the dashboard, creating a clean and minimalist look.
  • They make the Q2 more safe and comfortable. The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit help the driver to stay focused on the road, as they can access all the functions and information they need with minimal distraction. They also enhance the visibility and readability of the display, as they can adjust to the lighting conditions and the viewing angle. They also improve the ergonomics and the accessibility of the controls, as they are within easy reach and touch of the driver.
  • They make the Q2 more smart and connected. The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit enable the driver to use the latest technology and services that Audi offers, such as the MMI navigation plus system, the Audi smartphone interface, the myAudi app, and the Audi Connect package. These features allow the driver to interact with their Q2, their smartphone, and the internet in various ways, such as streaming music, downloading maps, receiving traffic updates, or booking parking spaces.

How much do the touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit cost?

The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are part of the technology package that Audi offers for the Q2. The technology package costs $2,200 and also includes the Audi sound system, the Audi phone box, and the wireless charging pad. The technology package is available for all the trim levels of the Q2, except for the base model.

The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are also available as standalone options for the Q2. The touchscreen costs $1,100 and the Audi virtual cockpit costs $900. However, these options require the MMI navigation plus system, which costs $1,800. Therefore, the total cost of adding the touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit separately is $3,800.

Is it worth getting the touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit for the Q2?

The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are optional features for the Q2, but they are definitely worth considering. They add a lot of value and quality to the Audi Q2, making it more attractive, functional, and enjoyable to drive. They also make the Q2 more competitive and up-to-date in the compact crossover segment, where technology is a key factor for many customers.

The touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit are not cheap, but they are not overpriced either. They are reasonably priced for the benefits and the features they offer. They are also cheaper than some of the similar or inferior systems that other brands offer for their crossovers.

Therefore, if you are looking for a compact crossover that has a sporty and stylish design, a powerful and efficient engine, a spacious and versatile interior, and a cutting-edge and user-friendly technology system, then the Audi Q2 with the touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit is the perfect choice for you.
