Why You Should Replace your Windshield

Why You Should Replace your Windshield

If you are like most people, you may think that that small crack or chip in your windshield doesn’t affect you and your driving capabilities. However, even if the crack does not impede your vision, you can still be pulled over and ticketed for having a damaged windshield. As you search for mobile auto glass repair East Baton Rouge Parish LA, consider the following reasons why you should have your windshield replaced.

Driving Safety

Cracks and chips that are on the driver’s side of the windshield often obscure the vision of drivers in the vehicle.  These cracks not only impair your vision, but they can reflect sunlight or headlights into your eyes, distracting you or obstructing your vision. This can cause accidents.

Windshield Safety

Small chips and cracks can quickly and easily be repaired, for the most part. However, large chips and long cracks require a windshield replacement. Windshields are not simply glass installed on your vehicle. They are actually two pieces of glass that sandwich a vinyl resin layer. This layer prevents the windshield from expelling glass during collisions. However, if this layer and the glass are already damaged by cracks and chips, a significant impact can cause it to shatter and throw glass back at you or outside the car at others.

Vehicle Safety

Multiple chips or lengthy cracks in your windshield affect its integrity, making your auto glass a danger to you and drivers around you. During a collision, damaged or improperly installed windshields can be expelled from your vehicle. The vehicle’s roof may be compromised or even collapse in these instances as the loss of the windshield impacts the structural integrity of the vehicle.

Whether your windshield has small chips or long cracks, consider consulting a local auto glass repair company to determine whether it needs to be repaired or replaced.
