With the launch of the mild-hybrid version of Fiat 500, the electrification of Fiat's model program begins. Moreover, this development continues when the brand new Fiat 500 as a pure electric car is put into production.
The Fiat 500 Hybrid becomes the first model with the new mild-hybrid engine. The latest version of Fiat's three-cylinder FireFly engine is combined with a 12-volt electric BSG (Belt-integrated Starter Generator) engine and a lithium battery.
It offers a number of benefits. Compared to the previous 1.2-litre Fire engine with 69hp, the new mild-hybrid engine has better fuel efficiency. On average, it reduces CO 2 emissions by 20% without compromising performance. The new engine also ensures a sound and vibration-low start of the internal combustion engine at Start & Stop driving, as well as living up to the latest and most stringent emission standards.

The new mild-hybrid engine is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It has two valves per unit, the weight is just 77 kg, it delivers 70 hp at 6,000 rpm and has a torque of 92 Nm at 3,500 rpm.
The BSG system is mounted directly on top of the engine and is driven by a belt. The system recovers energy when the car brakes or decelerates and stores it in a lithium battery with a capacity of 11 Ah. The energy is used to restart the engine at Start & Stop driving and to assist the engine as the car accelerates. The new mild-hybrid engine is combined with a six-speed manual transmission that ensures good driving performance and lowers gasoline consumption when driving on land and highways. The entire engine is also lowered 45 mm to give a lower centre of gravity and to ensure that the car is better on the road.
The mild-hybrid engine means that the petrol engine turns off automatically when the car is put into neutral - even at speeds below 30 km / h. Instead, the car gets all the energy from the lithium battery, ensuring that the driver has complete control of the car and driving.
