RV Maintenance Mistakes You Need To Avoid

RV Maintenance

Approximately 11 million Americans own a recreational vehicle (RV). Owning an RV allows you to travel with a large group of people without feeling cramped. Since these vehicles are expensive, taking care of them properly should be a top concern. There are a number of parts on an RV and each one of them will require maintenance/repair at one time or another. It is your responsibility to make sure that your RV receives the care it deserves.

The worst mistake you can make as the owner of an RV is procrastinating when it comes to maintenance and repairs. Here are some other mistakes you need to avoid if you want to keep your RV running efficiently for a long time to come.

Don’t Forget To Protect Your RV’s Roof

One of the most important and vulnerable parts on your RV is the roof. If this part of your RV is not properly protected, it is only a matter of time before significant damage occurs. When parking your RV for an extended period of time, you need to cover the roof to protect it from rain and direct sunlight.

If you don’t have a freestanding awning to park the RV under, then draping a waterproof tarp over the roof is a good idea. By doing this, you can prevent serious RV repair Killeen TX issues.

Ignoring Your RV’s Toilet

The bathroom remains one of the most important parts of an RV. Hence, you have to maintain it to avoid facing bathroom troubles. Most RV toilets are made of plastic. Although it serves the same function as other toilets, a plastic RV toilet is short-lived. Changing your toilet frequently can cost you a fortune in the long run, so a longer-lasting porcelain RV toilet may be a better option. Consider going for a porcelain macerating RV toilet. It helps prevent clogs in your RV’s black tank wastewater system even if you flush a normal toilet paper. Plus, it’s super easy to install.

Failing To Check The Seals Around Your Windows

Another mistake you need to avoid when trying to keep your RV damage-free is failing to check the seals around your windows. Over time, these seals will dry rot and will need to be replaced. By checking them regularly, you can discover this problem early on and replace the seals before any damage is done.

Working with RV repair professionals can help you keep your investment in peak condition.
