Ford Puma Gen-E Black vs ST Edition: Key Differences

Ford Puma Black Edition

Brand

  • Ford

Ford has opened European order books for two sharply focused Puma derivatives: the Ford Puma Gen-E Black Edition and Ford Puma ST Edition. The electric Black Edition concentrates on colour, lighting and cabin specification, while the ST Edition spends its budget on hardware that drivers can feel through a corner.

Puma ranked as Ford's best-selling passenger car in Europe during 2025 and led UK registrations through the first part of 2026. Ford Otosan also passed one million Puma units at its Craiova plant in Romania.

Two New Ford Puma Editions With Different Priorities

Ford gives both editions Azura Blue paint and a black roof, but each serves a different buyer. The Puma Gen-E Black Edition adds better night-driving hardware; the Puma ST Edition adds the existing Handling Pack.

Puma Gen-E Black Edition Adds Useful Hardware

Azura Blue supplies the visual impact, but the Matrix LED headlights add the larger daily benefit. Ford fits glare-free high beam and predictive cornering lights, allowing the system to reshape its beam for traffic and bends.

Inside, Candy Blue stitching runs across the seats, doors and dashboard. A black headliner deepens the cabin theme, while dedicated scuff plates separate this edition from a Ford Puma Gen-E with a black option pack. Ford has not announced a motor, inverter or charging upgrade for this derivative.

2026 Puma Gen-E Battery, Range and Charging Data

Ford increased 2026 Puma Gen-E battery capacity to 53 kWh installed and 46.8 kWh usable. The launch model offered 43 kWh usable and up to 376 km; the revised version reaches 417 km.

Specification2026 Puma Gen-E reference dataWhy it affects the Black Edition buyer
Motor output168 PS or 123.5 kWFord announces no edition-specific power increase
Peak torque290 Nm or 214 lb-ftImmediate front-axle torque supports quick urban response
Installed battery53 kWhLarger pack supports the 2026 range gain
Usable battery46.8 kWhThis figure represents driver-accessible energy
Maximum DC rate100 kWA compatible rapid charger can use the full quoted peak
DC charge, 10-80 percentAbout 26 minutesA 70 percent refill adds roughly 32.8 kWh before charging losses
Maximum WLTP range417 km or 259 milesFord quotes this for the most efficient 2026 Gen-E specification
18-inch Premium reference range404 km or 251 milesThe Black Edition's 18-inch wheels may carry a similar range penalty
Energy use13.1-13.7 kWh/100 kmWheel and equipment choices influence the certified result
Load volumeUp to 574 litresThe 145-litre GigaBox uses space below the boot floor

Looking at the data, Ford's 17-inch Gen-E Select reaches 259 miles, while the 18-inch Premium reaches 251 miles. Ford has not published a Black Edition-specific WLTP figure, so 417 km remains a range-wide maximum.

Puma ST Edition Puts Its Money Into Suspension

Ford starts with the Puma ST Powershift and fits KW Automotive coilovers. Stiffer springs lower the body by 10 mm, or 0.39 inch, while revised damper valves control wheel and body motion. The drop reduces the centre of gravity, but the new tuning should produce the larger handling gain.

The ST already uses a rear twist beam with 2,000 Nm per degree of torsional stiffness, a 28 mm rear anti-roll bar, a 24 mm front bar and an 11.4:1 steering ratio. Ford also fits 325 mm, or 12.8-inch, front brake discs. Consequently, the Edition builds on serious ST hardware.

The powertrain stays familiar:

  • A 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost engine works with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
  • Peak output reaches 170 PS, or 125 kW, at 5,750 rpm.
  • Peak torque reaches 248 Nm, or 183 lb-ft, at 3,000 rpm.
  • A seven-speed dual-clutch Powershift gearbox drives the front wheels and allows paddle-controlled shifts.
  • Ford quotes 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and a 210 km/h, or 130 mph, maximum speed.
  • WLTP combined consumption reaches 5.9 l/100 km, equal to 47.9 mpg Imperial or about 39.9 mpg US, with 135 g/km of CO2.

From an expert perspective, the unchanged output makes sense. More power would add thermal and traction work, while 248 Nm already asks the front tyres to manage acceleration and steering. The coilovers target braking, turn-in and direction changes.

Dimensions and Practicality Stay Intact

The Gen-E measures 4,214 mm long, 1,805 mm wide without mirrors and 1,555 mm tall; those figures equal 165.9, 71.1 and 61.2 inches. Its 2,588 mm, or 101.9-inch, wheelbase preserves compact parking dimensions, while the electric drivetrain creates room for the 145-litre GigaBox.

The Puma ST shares the 2,588 mm wheelbase and measures 4,226 mm, or 166.4 inches, long. It retains the washable 80-litre MegaBox. The 10 mm drop leaves passenger count and cargo layout unchanged.

Price Status and Buying Value

Ford has not released either edition's price. Current UK list data supplies the following USD reference points at about $1.3446 per pound on August 4, 2026.

Existing UK specificationApproximate USD valueBuying context
Puma Gen-E Select$40,330Entry point before local EV support
Puma Gen-E Premium$43,020Closest established 18-inch Gen-E equipment level
Puma ST Powershift$45,720Mechanical base for the new ST Edition
Factory ST Handling Pack$1,410Adds KW coilovers, 19-inch wheels, black roof, scuff plates and round steering wheel

Taxes, incentives and equipment vary by country. Ford has not confirmed either car for the United States.

Which New Ford Puma Edition Should You Buy?

Choose the Ford Puma Gen-E Black Edition if daily driving, electric running, night visibility and 574-litre cargo flexibility lead your list. Choose the Ford Puma ST Edition if steering response, chassis control and back-road pace carry greater value than maximum efficiency.

Pro-Tips Before Ordering

  1. Ask the dealer for the edition-specific WLTP certificate. The Black Edition's 18-inch wheels may reduce the 417 km range-wide maximum.
  2. Price the ST Edition against a standard ST with the $1,410 Handling Pack. Ford may bundle the new paint and cabin parts at a different total.
  3. Confirm Matrix LED, BlueCruise and connected-service terms for your country. Ford varies feature access across European markets.
  4. Test the ST Edition on broken urban surfaces. The firmer springs and 10 mm drop may trade low-speed compliance for tighter control.

Ford gives the Black Edition a clear equipment case and the ST Edition real chassis hardware. Each retains the Puma's compact footprint.
