The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport starts its second generation with five seats, strong towing capacity, and richer technology in a lower, shorter body than the three-row Atlas. Volkswagen will launch it in early 2027 and build it beside the Volkswagen Atlas in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The five-seat midsize SUV measures 195.6 inches (4,968 mm) long. It retains the Atlas's 117.3-inch (2,980-mm) wheelbase and roughly 78.3-inch (1,989-mm) width, yet Volkswagen cuts 5.4 inches (137 mm) from the Atlas's rear overhang and lowers the roof by 2.1 inches (53 mm). Consequently, the steep rear pillars change the stance without shrinking the axle spacing.

Volkswagen still needs to publish curb weight, ground clearance, cargo capacity, and approach and departure angles. The 2026 model supplied 40.3 cubic feet behind row two, 77.6 cubic feet with it folded, 6.3 inches of clearance, and 20.8/24.9-degree approach/departure angles. EA888 Evo5 Power and 4MOTION
The 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected EA888 evo5 engine produces 282 hp (210 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm). Specifically, output rises by 13 hp, or 4.8 percent, while peak torque falls by 15 lb-ft, or 5.5 percent, versus 2026. An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic drives the front wheels or available 4MOTION all-wheel drive on every trim.

The variable-geometry turbo moves its vanes to accelerate exhaust flow at low engine speed and limit back pressure at higher speed. In addition, the Miller-cycle strategy reduces compression work relative to the expansion stroke. Volkswagen targets lower fuel use, though the EPA has not released ratings.

Cabin Technology Targets Daily Friction
The column shifter clears console space for two Qi2 wireless chargers. Every version gains a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro; the SE uses a 12.9-inch center screen, while about 90 percent of production receives a 15-inch unit. A Driver Experience Dial controls volume, drive modes, and coordinated audio and ambient-light themes.

Emergency Assist Plus can steer toward the roadside after detecting a possible medical event. The top two trims gain predictive adaptive cruise control, while the flagship adds Park Assist Plus.
