Bolt from Tata Motors – a study by Autoportal.com

Nearly 50% of the vehicles sold in the Indian market are hatchbacks. The Maruti Suzuki and the Hyundai are the leading brands in this segment. In order to replace their aging cars the Tata Motors India Limited has unveiled a hatchback during the 2014 Indian auto expo. Named after the sprinter Ussain Bolt the Tata Bolt has been launched on 22nd January 2015.  The car is getting average sales so far.

Variants and prices

The Bolt comes in 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants in trims of XE, XM, XMS and XT in petrol and diesel. All the variants have manual transmission only. The petrol variants are priced Rupees 4.45 to 6.00 lakh and the diesel variants rupees 5.50 to 7.00 lakh.

Exteriors

The Tata Bolt comes in body colours of sky grey, dune beige, Venetian red, platinum silver and pristine white. The Bolt made on the X1 platform has similar looks of the Tata Indica Vista, but has more style than all other Tata cars. An aggressive grille, projector type LED head lamps, more rounded features at the rear and high and low mounted stop lamps give the car a premium look. Engines and mileages

Facts about the Bolt

  • 9653 units only sold since launching
  • Length - 3825 mm, wheel base - 2470 mm, Ground clearance - 165 mm
  •  Boot size 210 litres
  • Dual path McPherson suspension with coil springs at the front and torsion beam with coil springs and shock absorbers at the rear.
  • R14 wheels for trims and R15 for the top variants

Our views

The Tata Bolt is a differently styled hatchback car from the TMIL. The cabins of the Bolt are spacious and loaded with features. Good mileages, affordable prices and quality rides are the plus points of the Bolt. A bigger boot and introduction of auto variants will make it more competitive.
