Dyson will manufacture premium electric cars

Dyson

Dyson, a British company dedicated to dryers and vacuum cleaners, has just announced through its CEO that it will fully enter into the automotive industry with the manufacture of three premium electric cars. According to the Financial Times, Dyson plans to launch three electric vehicles powered by solid-state battery systems instead of the usual lithium-ion batteries, achieving more power, shorter battery charge time and greater safety.

Dyson's first electric car will be limited to 1,000 units and it will be used to introduce the brand to the automotive market, making itself known and getting a customer base. After this first launch, Dyson will manufacture two other models to compete in the premium segment.

At the moment, Dyson will make an investment of 1,370 million USD for the development of batteries and another $1,370 million USD for the production of automobiles.

Analyst Adam Jonas said: "The potential concern for incumbent players is that true expertise in battery technology, electric motors, etc, may lie with companies like Dyson, LG (of Korea) and not the traditional suppliers/manufacturers which have been focussed on mastering the most dominant powertrain over the last 100 years"
