Citroen C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid Conquers the Tremola: A Swiss Adventure

Citroen C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid Conquers the Tremola: A Swiss Adventure

Imagine this: you're cruising through the Swiss countryside in your Citroen C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid, the majestic peaks of the Alps looming large in the distance. But you're not just sightseeing – you're about to embark on a legendary journey, tackling the king of Alpine passes – the Gotthard Pass – via the historic Tremola.

The Tremola, with its 24 hairpins bends of cobblestone, is a testament to Roman engineering. But fear not, intrepid adventurer! The Citroen C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid is more than up for the challenge.

Efficiency Meets Power: A Hybrid Advantage

One of the biggest perks of a plug-in hybrid like the C5 Aircross is the versatility it offers. The hybrid system seamlessly switches between electric and combustion engine power, optimizing fuel efficiency. This translates to real savings – like lower annual car tax based on the internal combustion engine's output (147 HP for the Hybrid 180 or 181 HP for the Hybrid 225).

But that's not all. In some regions, like Lombardy and Piedmont, there are tax breaks for low-emission vehicles like the C5 Aircross. And let's not forget the environmental benefits – with CO2 emissions as low as 32 g/km, the C5 Aircross grants access to Milan's restricted traffic zone (Area C) for free, along with free parking privileges.

Embracing the Challenge: Tremola Time

With the breathtaking Swiss scenery whizzing by, we head towards the adventure that awaits – the Tremola. The smooth motorway driving showcases the car's hybrid efficiency, with the energy recovery system kicking in during deceleration. Every time you ease off the accelerator, the engine cleverly switches to coasting mode, saving fuel and extending your range.

As we exit the motorway at Airolo, the "Grand Tour" signs ignite our wanderlust. This route, spanning 1,643 kilometers, winds its way past Switzerland's most captivating sights. But for now, our focus is on the challenging, yet rewarding, Tremola.

Comfort Reigns Supreme: Taming the Cobblestones

The key to conquering the Tremola lies not just in the car's power, but also in its ability to handle rough terrain. This is where the Citroen's magic truly shines. The ingenious Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension absorbs every bump, pothole, and unevenness the Tremola throws our way. Developed with racing heritage in mind (think 20 patents and a Paris-Dakar win!), these innovative cushions ensure a smooth, comfortable ride, even on the most demanding surfaces.

To heighten the experience, we switch to the "Electric" driving mode, having preserved battery charge with the e-Save function. The near-silent glide over the cobblestones adds another layer of enjoyment, allowing us to truly appreciate the car's advanced comfort tech and the historical significance of the road.

Reaching the Peak: Awe-Inspiring Rewards

Finally, we conquer the final hairpin bend and reach the summit – the Gotthard Pass, a majestic 2,106 meters above sea level. Here, we find the National Museum of San Gottardo, a treasure trove of history that unveils the Gotthard's role as a crucial trade route. Across the lake lies another marvel – the Sasso San Gottardo, a once-secret fortress hidden deep within the mountain.

Our Citroen C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid adventure doesn't just end here; it's merely the beginning of countless other journeys waiting to be explored. With its efficient powertrain, unmatched comfort, and a touch of electric magic, the C5 Aircross is the perfect companion for conquering any road, paved or not.
