Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon: Street-Legal Race Car with Raw Carbon Skin

Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon

GTD Liquid Carbon Overview

The Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon brings track technology to public roads. Ford exposes carbon fiber body panels instead of covering them in paint. The car sheds 13 lb (6 kg) compared with the standard GTD Carbon Series fitted with the Performance package. Under the hood, the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 produces 815 horsepower. Buyers must take the Performance package. Orders are open now. Deliveries start October 2025.

Engineering That Delivers

Ford engineers this car with track-inspired systems. The carbon fiber body panels, dry-sump oil system, and rear transaxle create a near 50/50 weight distribution. That balance improves cornering speed and control. The dry-sump system prevents oil starvation during high-G maneuvers, a feature essential for Nürburgring lap time targets.

The Performance package brings active aerodynamics, a functional rear wing, fender vents, and a splitter. These elements increase downforce, reduce drag, and cool the brakes. Reduced sound deadening cuts weight for faster acceleration and sharper handling.

Performance on Track

The standard Ford Mustang GTD achieved a 6:57.685 Nürburgring lap in December 2024. By May 2025, it improved to 6:52.072. The Liquid Carbon shares its powertrain and aerodynamic profile, so performance should match or surpass those times. Competition includes the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Corvette ZR1X, the latter later setting a faster lap.

Price and Exclusivity

Ford positions the standard GTD well above $300,000 USD. The Ford Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon variant will cost more. Based on early market estimates, pricing may exceed $400,000 USD. Limited production and hand-assembled builds keep exclusivity high.

What GTD Liquid Carbon Means for Drivers

  • Performance-focused: Built with race technology for the road.
  • Lightweight: Strategic material use reduces weight without compromising strength.
  • Sharper handling: Active aero and balanced chassis improve precision.
  • Raw aesthetic: Exposed carbon fiber showcases engineering.
  • Exclusive: Low production numbers create rarity.

Detailed Breakdown

Direct Track DNA

The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon focuses on speed and control. Its carbon-fiber driveshaft and rear transaxle achieve optimal weight balance. Steering is precise. The dry-sump oil system maintains lubrication under extreme lateral forces. This system, new for a street Mustang, ensures consistent power delivery in sustained high-speed turns.

Weight Loss Through Aesthetic Honesty

By skipping paint and bonding carbon fiber door skins, Ford saves 13 lb versus the painted Carbon Series GTD. The carbon weave aligns across hood, roof, and decklid, giving a uniform, engineered appearance. This functional approach also enhances the car’s visual impact.

Performance Package as Standard

The package includes:

  • Magnesium wheels to cut rotational mass.
  • Active aero to adjust downforce dynamically.
  • Revised diffusers and splitters for stability.
  • Reduced sound insulation to save weight.
  • Black GTD brake calipers to match the aggressive look.

These upgrades improve acceleration, cornering grip, and braking efficiency.

Interior That Defines Focus

The cabin uses leather and Dinamica suede with Hyper Lime stitching. The reflective gradient in the seat centers stands out without adding unnecessary weight. Every component inside supports the car’s performance intent.

Real-World Speed Metrics

The sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap proves this Mustang competes with the best. That performance record also sets the bar for the Liquid Carbon. Even if newer rivals post quicker times, the GTD remains a benchmark for American muscle performance.

Pricing That Matches Ambition

UK figures of £315,000 (~$395,000 USD) for the GTD suggest the Liquid Carbon could exceed $400,000 USD. This car targets buyers who want race-car performance without sacrificing street legality. Its rarity reinforces its status.

Summary

The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon combines 815 horsepower, lightweight construction, and race-derived technology in a road-legal package. Carbon fiber panels, magnesium wheels, and active aerodynamics work together to maximize performance. It’s designed for speed on both track and street. With its exclusivity, pricing, and engineering, the GTD Liquid Carbon stands as one of the most extreme Mustangs ever built.
