The Future is Here: The Toyota Mirai Review

The New Toyota Mirai Offers an Electrifying Ride

The Toyota Mirai is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that promises to revolutionize the automotive industry. The Mirai, which means “future” in Japanese, is one of the few zero-emission vehicles on the market, producing only water as a byproduct. The Mirai also offers a sleek design, a luxurious interior, and a smooth performance that rivals any conventional car.

The Mirai was first launched in 2015, and since then, it has undergone several improvements and upgrades. The latest Toyota Mirai promises to be the most advanced and refined Mirai yet. In this article, we will take a closer look at the features and benefits of the new Toyota Mirai and why it might be the car of the future.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology

The Mirai is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system, which converts hydrogen gas into electricity. The electricity then drives an electric motor that propels the car. The only emission from this process is water vapor, which exits through the tailpipe. The Mirai does not need to be plugged in to recharge, as it can refill its hydrogen tanks at a hydrogen station in a matter of minutes.

The 2024 Toyota Mirai has a new fuel cell stack that is 50% smaller and 30% lighter than the previous generation but delivers 12% more power and 30% more range. The new fuel cell stack can produce up to 182 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, which is comparable to a midsize sedan. The 2024 Toyota Mirai also has a larger hydrogen storage capacity, with three tanks that can hold up to 5.6 kilograms of hydrogen. This allows the Mirai to travel up to 402 miles on a single fill-up, which is more than any other zero-emission vehicle on the market.

Design and Style

The 2024 Toyota Mirai has a new platform that is based on the Toyota Crown, a premium sedan that is popular in Japan. The new platform gives the Mirai a longer wheelbase, a lower center of gravity, and a wider stance, which enhances its stability and handling. The Mirai also has a new body style that is more aerodynamic and sporty, with a coupe-like silhouette, a sloping roofline, and a short rear overhang.

The 2024 Toyota Mirai has a new exterior design that is more expressive and elegant, with a large grille, slim LED headlights, and sculpted lines. The Mirai is available in eight colors, including Hydro Blue, Oxygen White, and Heavy Metal. The Mirai also has a new interior design that is more spacious and luxurious, with a digital dashboard, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a 14-speaker JBL sound system. The Mirai can seat up to five passengers and offers heated and ventilated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and ambient lighting.

Performance and Safety

The 2024 Toyota Mirai offers a smooth and quiet ride thanks to its electric drivetrain, adaptive suspension, and noise-reducing materials. The Mirai also offers responsive and agile handling, thanks to its rear-wheel drive, electric power steering, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Mirai can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 108 mph.

The new Toyota Mirai also offers a high level of safety thanks to its advanced driver assistance systems, which include:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Bicycle Detection, which can warn and brake for potential collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, which can alert and steer the driver back to the lane if the car drifts out of it.
  • Lane Tracing Assist, which can keep the car centered in the lane and follow the curves of the road.
  • Road Sign Assist, which can recognize and display speed limits and other road signs on the dashboard.
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which can maintain a set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, and adjust accordingly to the traffic flow.
  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which can warn the driver of vehicles in the blind spots and approaching from behind when reversing.
  • Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, which can help the driver park the car and prevent collisions with obstacles.

Price and Availability

The 2024 Toyota Mirai is expected to go on sale in spring and will be available in two trim levels: XLE and Limited. The XLE will start at $49,500, and the Limited will start at $66,000. The Mirai will also qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $8,000, and a state rebate of up to $4,500 in California, where most of the hydrogen stations are located. The Mirai will also come with a complimentary fuel card that will cover up to $15,000 worth of hydrogen for the first three years of ownership.

The Toyota Mirai will be a limited production vehicle, with only 30,000 units planned for the global market. The Mirai will be mainly sold in select markets with available hydrogen infrastructure, such as California, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The Mirai will also be available in Japan, Europe, China, and Australia.

Conclusion

The 2024 Toyota Mirai is a groundbreaking vehicle that offers a clean and green alternative to conventional cars. The Mirai combines hydrogen fuel cell technology with design and style, performance and safety, and price and availability to create a compelling and attractive package. The Mirai is not only a car, but a vision of the future. The Mirai is the future of mobility.
