Renault 5 E-Tech: A Fun, Friendly, and Affordable Retro EV

Renault 5 E-Tech: A Fun, Friendly, and Affordable Retro EV

Renault has revived its iconic Renault 5 hatchback as an all-electric city car combining retro charm and modern technology. The Renault 5 E-Tech is part of the French brand’s ambitious plan to make electric cars widespread in Europe, and it promises to be a fun, friendly, and affordable option for urban drivers.

A Blast from the Past

The original Renault 5 was launched in 1972 and sold over 5.5 million units until 1985. It was a popular and practical car that appealed to many customers, from young families to rally enthusiasts. The Renault 5 also spawned some legendary performance versions, such as the Renault R5 Turbo and the Super5 GT Turbo, which are still highly sought-after by collectors today.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech pays homage to its predecessor with a stylish design that blends nostalgia and innovation. The car features many visual cues from the classic 5, such as the square headlights, the black grille, the flared wheel arches, and the hatchback silhouette. However, it also adds some modern touches, such as LED lights, aerodynamic wheels, and a digital dashboard. The new Renault 5 E-Tech is based on the 2021 Renault 5 concept car.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will be available in four colors: Yellow Pop, Green Pop, Blue Pop, and White Pop. These vibrant hues reflect the car’s playful personality and youthful spirit. The electric car will also offer customization options, such as 3D-printed accessories and stickers, to let customers express their individuality.

A Smart and Sustainable Choice

The Renault 5 E-Tech is not just a pretty face. It is also a smart and sustainable choice for drivers who want to reduce their environmental impact and enjoy the benefits of electric mobility. The car is based on a new AmpR Small platform that is designed specifically for compact electric vehicles. It will come with two battery options: a 40 kWh or a 52 kWh unit and three electric motor options: a 70 kW, a 90 kW, or a 110 kW unit.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will offer a driving range of up to 248 miles on a single charge, depending on the battery and motor combination. It will also support fast charging of up to 100 kW, which means it can go from 15% to 80% in just 30 minutes. The car will also feature a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system to power other electrical devices, such as laptops, phones, or even camping equipment.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will also boast a connected driving experience that integrates the best of Google and Renault. The car will come with a 10-inch touchscreen that runs on Android Automotive OS, which gives access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play, and other popular apps. The car will also have a virtual avatar called Reno, powered by artificial intelligence and can interact with the driver by voice. Reno can provide information, advice, and assistance on various aspects of the car and the driving situation.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will also feature 26 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and emergency braking. These systems will help the driver drive more safely and efficiently and avoid potential accidents.

A Fun and Affordable Option

The Renault 5 E-Tech aims to be a fun and affordable option for urban drivers who want to embrace electric mobility. The electric car will be lively and agile, with a 0-62 mph time of around 8 seconds in the most powerful models. It will also have sporty and responsive handling thanks to its low center of gravity, rear-wheel drive, and four-wheel steering.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will also have a competitive price, starting from around $30,000 in Europe. This will make it one of the cheapest electric cars on the market and a strong rival to other popular models, such as the Mini Electric, the Honda E, and the Fiat 500 Electric.

The Renault 5 E-Tech is expected to hit the European roads in early 2025, and it will be followed by other electric models based on the same platform, such as the Renault 4 E-Tech and the Renault Megane E-Tech. Renault hopes that these models will help it to achieve its goal of making 90% of its sales electric by 2030.

The 2025 Renault 5 E-Tech is a retro EV that’s ready to rock. It combines the charm of the classic 5 with the technology of the modern electric car. It is a smart and sustainable choice for urban drivers who want to reduce their environmental impact and enjoy the benefits of electric mobility. It is also a fun and affordable option for drivers who want to have a lively and agile performance and a playful and friendly personality. The Renault 5 E-Tech is a car that rewrites the rules and launches R5, Super5 and Renault R5 Turbo into the future.
