2024 Toyota Grand Highlander: A Bigger, Better Hybrid SUV

  • Toyota

Toyota has just unveiled its latest hybrid SUV, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, which is set to hit the driveways this summer. The Grand Highlander is a larger version of the popular Highlander, offering more space, more features, and more efficiency for families who need a versatile and reliable vehicle.

The Grand Highlander is based on the same platform as the Toyota Highlander, but it has a longer wheelbase and overall length, giving it more room for passengers and cargo. The Grand Highlander can seat up to eight people in three rows of seats, with ample legroom and headroom for everyone. The cargo area is also generous, with up to 1,860 liters (65.6 cubic feet) of space behind the first row, 1,120 liters (39.6 cubic feet) behind the second row, and 340 liters (12 cubic feet) behind the third row.

The Grand Highlander is powered by a hybrid system that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, one for each axle. The system produces a total of 243 horsepower and can operate in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive mode. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander also features a new e-AWD system that can vary the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels depending on the driving conditions.

The hybrid system is not only powerful but also efficient, as the Grand Highlander boasts an impressive fuel economy rating of 6.7 L/100 km (35 mpg) in combined city/highway driving. That's better than most of its competitors in the midsize SUV segment, such as the Ford Explorer Hybrid (7.1 L/100 km or 33 mpg), the Honda Pilot (9.3 L/100 km or 25 mpg), and the Chevrolet Traverse (11.2 L/100 km or 21 mpg).

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander also comes with a host of advanced safety and technology features that make it a smart choice for modern drivers. The Grand Highlander is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, road sign assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear seat reminder. The Grand Highlander also offers a digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, a panoramic view monitor, a wireless smartphone charger, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a JBL premium sound system with 11 speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Grand Highlander is available in four trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. The LE starts at $41,995 USD ($52,500 CAD) and comes with standard features such as LED headlights and taillights, heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, a smart key system with push-button start, a power liftgate, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The XLE adds leather-trimmed seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, power-adjustable front seats with driver memory function, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink universal transceiver, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The Limited ups the ante with ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a hands-free power liftgate, ambient lighting, wood-grain interior trim, and chrome exterior accents. The Platinum tops the range with quilted leather seats, heated third-row seats, rain-sensing wipers, a bird's eye view camera, 10-inch color head-up display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, and adaptive variable suspension.

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is a welcome addition to Toyota's hybrid SUV lineup, which already includes the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the Toyota Venza, the Highlander Hybrid, and the upcoming Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid. The Grand Highlander offers more space and comfort than the Toyota Highlander Hybrid without sacrificing performance or efficiency. It's a great option for families who want a spacious, practical, and eco-friendly vehicle that can handle any adventure.

If you're interested in getting behind the wheel of the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, you can visit your local Toyota dealer or check out their website for more information. You can also sign up for updates and notifications on the Grand Highlander's availability and pricing. Don't miss this opportunity to own one of the best hybrid SUVs on the market today.
