Vauxhall Vivaro and Vivaro Electric: What You Need to Know

Vauxhall Vivaro Electric

Vauxhall has revealed its new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric vans, which are set to go on sale in early 2023. The new models feature a refreshed design, improved technology, and various powertrain options, including a fully electric version. Here’s what you need to know about the new Vauxhall Vivaro and Vivaro Electric.

Design and Dimensions

The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric have a more modern and dynamic look, with a new front grille, LED headlights, and redesigned bumpers. The vans also have new alloy wheel designs and a choice of nine body colours. The Vivaro Electric has some distinctive features, such as blue accents on the grille and badges, and a charging port on the front wing.

The new Vauxhall Vivaro and Vivaro Electric are available in two body lengths: L1 (4.95m) and L2 (5.30m). The vans have a maximum load volume of 6.6 cubic meters and a maximum payload of 1,400kg. The vans can also tow up to 2,500kg, which is one of the highest ratings in the medium van segment.

Technology and Safety

The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric come with a range of technology and safety features, such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, a wireless smartphone charger, and a rear-view camera. The vans also have a digital instrument cluster, which shows different information depending on the driving mode and the battery level.

The new Vivaro and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric also have a number of advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition, and emergency braking. The vans also have a semi-autonomous parking system, which can steer the vehicle into parallel or perpendicular spaces.

Powertrain and Performance

The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric offer a choice of diesel and electric powertrains with different outputs and ranges. The diesel engines are 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre units, with power ranging from 100hp to 180hp. The diesel engines are paired with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission and have a start-stop system to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The electric powertrain is a 100kW (136hp) electric motor, which delivers 260Nm of torque. The electric motor is powered by either a 50kWh or a 75kWh battery, which provide a range of 143 miles or 205 miles, respectively, according to the WLTP cycle. The electric powertrain also has three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Power, which adjust the performance and efficiency of the van. The Vivaro Electric can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes (50kWh battery) or 45 minutes (75kWh battery) using a 100kW rapid charger.

Price and Availability

The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric are expected to go on sale in the UK in early 2024, with prices starting from around $30,000 for the diesel versions and around $48,000 for the electric versions, excluding VAT and including the government grant. The vans will be available in three trim levels: Prime, Pro, and GS, with different levels of equipment and styling.

Comparison with Similar Vans

The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric face strong competition from other medium vans in the market, such as the Ford Transit Custom, the Volkswagen Transporter, and the Mercedes-Benz Vito. Here’s how they compare in terms of key specifications:

As you can see, the new Vivaro and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric have some advantages and disadvantages compared to their rivals. The Vivaro has the highest payload and one of the highest towing capacities, but the Transit Custom has more powertrain options and a longer electric range. The Transporter has the most powerful diesel engine but the lowest electric range and payload. The Vito has the lowest diesel power but the highest electric torque and a variable electric range.

Conclusion

The vans are also competitively priced and have a high payload and towing capacity. The new Vivaro and Vivaro Electric are worth considering for anyone looking for a versatile and efficient medium van.
