The Volkswagen ID5 earns five stars in Euro NCAP crash testing

Volkswagen's latest electric car family ID model scored very well in the Euro NCAP safety tests. The Volkswagen ID.5 electric car received the best possible rating of five out of five possible stars. In addition, the examiners gave the electric SUV coupe an excellent rating in three of the four criteria examined: protection for adult occupants and children and concerning standard assistance systems.

In the "Adult occupant protection" category, the Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV scored 93 percent of the possible rating points. The evaluation is based, among other things, on frontal, side-impact, and whiplash tests. In addition, based on the crash tests and an assessment of the measures for the fastest possible rescue and recovery, an outstanding result was determined for the Volkswagen ID5 electric SUV.

The new Volkswagen ID.5 electric SUV achieved a score of 89 percent for "Child Protection." In addition to the protection provided by child restraint systems in the event of a frontal or side impact, the focus here is also on the options for securely attaching child seats of various sizes and the equipment that a vehicle offers for transporting children.

The Euro NCAP awarded the Volkswagen ID.5 electric car 85 percent of the possible rating points in the assistance systems area. In addition, Volkswagen ID.5 achieved a result of 76 percent in the "Protection of endangered road users" such as pedestrians and cyclists.

The Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV, which the Volkswagen ID.5 is based on, achieved the highest rating in the Euro NCAP in April 2021 and the Volkswagen ID.3 compact car in October 2020. The technical basis of the ID models is always VW's MEB modular electric drive system.
