Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback Arrive With 145 HP and Three Powertrains

Fiat Grizzly SUV and the Fiat Grizzly Fastback

Brand

  • Fiat

Fiat will attack the family SUV market with two closely related models: the Fiat Grizzly SUV and the Fiat Grizzly Fastback. The company plans to begin sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa during the final quarter of 2026, followed by a UK arrival in 2027 and later expansion into South America.

The strategy looks clear. The upright Grizzly targets families that place cabin height, passenger access, and daily utility first. The longer Fastback targets drivers who want a sleeker profile without giving up a large cargo area.

Confirmed Fiat Grizzly Specifications

The 2027 Fiat Grizzly measures 4,400 mm long, equal to 173.2 inches. The 2027 Fiat Grizzly Fastback stretches to 4,500 mm, or 177.2 inches, giving it an extra 100 mm of body length. Fiat also confirms a 600-litre cargo compartment for the Fastback, equal to about 21.2 cubic feet.

Both models will offer petrol, mild-hybrid, and fully electric drivetrains. Output will reach 145 hp, and Fiat will pair the available engines with manual or automatic transmissions according to each market.

Fiat has not published the wheelbase, width, height, curb weight, ground clearance, towing limit, battery capacity, charging speed, electric range, fuel economy, torque, pricing, or final seat count. Early road sightings suggest Fiat has tested a seven-seat layout, but buyers should wait for factory data before considering that configuration confirmed.

Why Fiat Created Two Grizzly Body Styles

Fiat could have launched one conventional crossover. Instead, it split the programme into two bodies because family buyers use interior space in different ways.

The standard Fiat Grizzly family SUV uses a taller, squarer rear section. That shape supports headroom, a wide tailgate opening, easier child-seat access, and a useful load area for pushchairs, boxes, and tall luggage. A vertical body also lets engineers preserve rear-seat comfort within a shorter overall length.

The Fastback takes another route. Its extra 100 mm gives Fiat more floor length for luggage, while the sloping rear profile creates a stronger road presence. Fiat claims greater longitudinal cargo capacity, and the 600-litre figure supports that claim on paper.

In addition, the two-body plan lets Fiat sell a utility-led model and a design-led model without developing two unrelated vehicles. Shared hard points, electronics, drivetrains, and production tooling can control cost while each body attracts a separate audience.

Smart Car Architecture Supports Lower Costs

The Grizzly pair uses Stellantis' Smart Car architecture, which also supports the Fiat Grande Panda and Citroen C3. The structure accepts combustion, hybrid, and battery-electric drivetrains, so Fiat can alter the sales mix by country without redesigning the full vehicle.

That flexibility carries real commercial value. Fiat can serve EV, hybrid, and petrol buyers with one core structure.

Specifically, shared modules can reduce engineering work, purchasing complexity, and factory investment. From an expert perspective, this architecture gives the Grizzly its best chance of reaching an aggressive price point.

Reuters reported that Stellantis plans to build the pair in Morocco, where the company has expanded its Kenitra manufacturing operation. Regional assembly can shorten supply routes into Europe, the Middle East, and Africa while controlling labour and logistics costs.

Petrol, Mild Hybrid, and Electric Versions

Fiat confirms up to 145 hp, but it has not linked that figure to a specific drivetrain. The number suggests a family-focused tune rather than a high-output derivative. Buyers should expect front-wheel drive to serve as the main configuration unless Fiat announces an additional system later.

The mild-hybrid version should carry much of the sales volume. A turbocharged petrol engine, a 48-volt system, and an electrified automatic transmission can cut low-speed fuel use without asking drivers to charge.

The electric model raises bigger questions:

  • What usable battery capacity will Fiat provide?
  • How far will it travel under WLTP testing?
  • What peak DC charging rate will it support?
  • Will Fiat use lithium iron phosphate cells to reduce cost?
  • Will the EV retain the same cargo and seating capacity?

Fiat has not answered those questions. Consequently, buyers should ignore precise range, charging, or battery claims until the company issues homologated data.

Fiat Grizzly Versus Key Family SUV Rivals

Looking at the data, the Grizzly sits between compact B-SUVs and larger C-SUVs. Its main advantage could come from packaging efficiency rather than exterior size.

Fiat Grizzly Fastback4,500 mm / 177.2 in600 L / 21.2 cu ftPetrol, mild hybrid, electric

Opel Frontera4,385 mm / 172.6 in460 L / 16.2 cu ft in five-seat trimHybrid, electric
Dacia Bigster4,570 mm / 179.9 in612-677 L / 21.6-23.9 cu ftMild hybrid, full hybrid, LPG

By comparison, the standard Grizzly runs almost the same length as the C3 Aircross and Frontera. Fiat must win through cabin design, equipment, pricing, or styling rather than sheer size. The Fastback offers a stronger cargo claim, although the larger Dacia Bigster still provides more maximum luggage volume in several versions.

The biggest competitive question concerns seats. Citroen and Opel already sell seven-seat derivatives at roughly the same length as the standard Grizzly. Fiat needs a confirmed third row to challenge those models directly among larger families.

Cabin and Equipment Questions

Fiat gives both models slim LED lighting, a wide grille area, and a large central brand script. The Grizzly wears a vertical rear body, while the Fastback uses a longer roof arc and tapered tail.

Fiat has not published screen sizes, driver-assistance packages, connectivity functions, trim grades, or full cabin photos. The final specification will decide how well the Grizzly competes with Citroen, Opel, and Dacia.

Pro-Tips for Buyers Considering a Fiat Grizzly

  • Wait for battery data: Compare usable capacity, winter range, the DC charging curve, and heat-pump availability.
  • Check the seating layout: Confirm third-row availability, access, child-seat compatibility, and cargo space with every seat raised.
  • Compare equal trim levels: A low entry price loses value when key safety systems or faster charging require costly packs.
  • Inspect payload and towing ratings: A large boot does not guarantee a high payload limit.
  • Measure real cargo needs: The Fastback's 600 litres looks strong, but roof shape, wheel-arch intrusion, and floor height affect usability.

Should You Wait for the Fiat Grizzly?

Wait if you want an affordable family SUV with petrol, hybrid, and electric choices and you do not need a replacement immediately. The Grizzly's 4.4-metre length should suit European streets, while the Fastback's 600-litre cargo rating gives it a clear practical selling point.

Do not base a purchase on the 145 hp figure alone. Price, equipment, efficiency, rear-seat packaging, warranty terms, and charging speed will control ownership value far more than peak output.

Fiat plans a public appearance at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, followed by sales from the final quarter. That event should bring the missing specifications. Until then, the Fiat Grizzly SUV looks competitive on size and drivetrain choice, but the final price and engineering data will decide its place against the C3 Aircross, Frontera, and Bigster.
