The new Ford Kuga Hybrid has the ability to travel 1,000 km

Ford Kuga Hybrid

Ford expands its range of Kuga electrified SUVs with the new Ford Kuga Hybrid. The new Kuga model has been specially developed to incorporate a full hybrid, petrol-electric propulsion system, without compromising on the pragmatism and space offered by an SUV.

The 1.1 kWh battery with the self-charging function of the new Ford Kuga Hybrid SUV is automatically powered both by the 2.5-litre petrol engine with Atkinson cycle and by using a regenerative charging technology. The stored energy powers an electric motor to increase performance, improve the fuel consumption of the petrol engine or provide a purely electric driving experience. Kuga Hybrid automatically switches, without hesitation, between power configurations depending on the selected driving mode.

The new advanced hybrid propulsion system is unique to the Ford Kuga series. It gives the efficiency and refinement of pure electric power without the necessity to charge from an external power source. In addition, the comfort given by the autonomy of approximately 1,000 km challenges that offered by diesel engines.

The Kuga Hybrid is also the first Kuga to combine an electrified propulsion system with the sophisticated Ford All-Wheel Drive. Both the front-wheel-drive and the intelligent all-wheel-drive variants help to improve the driving fun, given the 190hp power and the speed-shifting simulation function for serial-parallel transmission. The technology is designed to mimic the familiar speed changes of a conventional automatic transmission for a more authentic experience.

The Ford Kuga Hybrid is now in production at the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain. Kuga Hybrid's advanced lithium-ion battery systems are also being assembled at the Valencia plant. The new Kuga Hybrid completes the most electrified range for a single model ever offered by Ford and joins the 48-volt Kuga Plug-In Hybrid and EcoBlue mild Hybrid variants.

The capacity to travel 1,000 km with a single full tank delivers an excellent Ford Kuga Hybrid as a compelling alternative to diesel cars. Offering a fuel consumption of 5.4l / 100 Km and CO2 emissions from 125 g / km WLTP. Because it does not require an external power source to charge the battery, the Kuga Hybrid is an attractive choice for customers who want an electrified propulsion system but have limited access to charging solutions at home or work.

The 60kWh 60-cell battery uses a liquid cooling system that eliminates the need for a cooling fan, helping to reduce the noise level. Optimized cooling also allows battery cells to be arranged more efficiently, which helps keep space in the passenger compartment. The occupants of the front seat have a space of more than one meter at head level, and behind the front seats, there is cargo space of up to 1,481 litres. In addition, an exhaust gas heat exchange system helps bring the engine faster to the most efficient operating temperature, allowing the Kuga Hybrid to offer the ability to drive electrically much faster after a cold start.

The Kuga Hybrid gives a linear response to acceleration, while automatically changing between pure electric, hybrid and petrol power. The most advanced generation of the Ford transmission is specially designed to run on the 2.5-litre Atkinson petrol engine. Acceleration 0-100 Km / h (0-62 mph) is done in 9.1 seconds for the front-wheel-drive variant.

The Ford Kuga Hybrid is also available with intelligent all-wheel drive, which measures how the car's wheels adhere to the road surface and can adjust torque delivery between the front and rear wheels for more road safety. The technology has a minimal impact on fuel consumption, the car automatically returning to front-wheel drive in favourable driving conditions.

The new Ford Kuga Hybrid is available to order in a wide range of variants, including Trend, Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line, ST-Line X and Vignale, offering a wide range of driver assistance and comfort technologies. The standard FordPass Connect 6 modem will allow drivers to plan their trips much easier and faster.

The new Ford Kuga Hybrid can now be ordered for around 31,000 euros.

The available driver assistance technologies are designed to provide greater confidence in driving and to make driving a much less demanding experience. These include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Centering. The new lane-keeping system with blind-spot assistance is making its global debut on the Kuga. Also on the new Ford Kuga will debut the optional Intersection Assist technology that monitors potential collisions with oncoming vehicles from parallel lanes.
