The English magazine What Car has just promulgated a major study on the reliability of no fewer than 18,000 cars - all between 6-15 years old. In the luxury car department, Jaguar XJ is clearly the most reliable used car.

In a major study in What Car magazine among 31 brands and with 218 different models represented, more than 18,000 English car owners talk about the reliability of their cars. Cars that are all between 6 and 15 years old. And the results are facts, so there is probably little prejudice that needs to be revised.

Looking at the overall results for the brands as a whole, it may not be surprising that Japanese Lexus comes out as the most flawless car brand. For many years, the results have pointed the same way - the Japanese luxury car just keeps going. But there are also surprises. As a brand, Jaguar is fine in the middle of the field as number 14. It's not that bad at all. But even better when you see those obvious competitors like Audi, BMW and Mercedes are further down the table.
