Nissan Micra EV Earns Five Green NCAP Stars: What Buyers Get

Nissan Micra EV Earns Five Green NCAP Stars

Brand

  • Nissan

The Nissan Micra EV has secured a five-star Green NCAP sustainability rating, pairing a 94% overall score with strong energy-efficiency results. Nissan announced the recognition on September 2026, giving European buyers another reason to consider its electric supermini.

The detail deserves attention. Green NCAP lists the 52kWh Micra, and its assessment carries over results from the tested Renault 5 E-Tech under rules for vehicles sharing key technical specifications.

What the Five-Star Rating Measures

Green NCAP assesses environmental impact across the vehicle life cycle, including production, energy use and end-of-life processing. Its sustainability stars address a different question from Euro NCAP's crash-safety assessment.

AssessmentMicra resultWhat it tells buyers
Overall sustainability94%; five starsHighest star tier
Clean Air9.1/10Strong air-pollution result
Energy Efficiency9.3/10Strong energy-use result
Greenhouse Gases10/10Maximum category score
Cold Winter PerformanceGoodSeparate driving-experience grade
Charging CapabilityAdequateSeparate driving-experience grade

Specifically, the rating covers 52kWh versions with the same charging specifications and cabin-heating concept as the assessed Renault. Buyers should avoid automatically extending that result to the smaller battery. A maximum greenhouse-gas score also does not mean the car creates zero emissions throughout its life.

40kWh vs 52kWh: Range and Charging

Nissan offers two battery sizes. Its September announcement quotes up to 317km and 416km of WLTP range, depending on market specification.

Specification40kWh Micra52kWh Micra
Maximum WLTP range317km416km
Motor output90kW110kW
Maximum torque225Nm245Nm
0–62mph9.0 seconds8.0 seconds
Peak DC charging80kW100kW
AC charging capacity11kW11kW

Looking at the data, the larger battery adds 30% capacity and approximately 31% claimed range. That makes its main benefit longer driving intervals between charging stops, alongside quicker acceleration.

Nissan quotes a 15–80% charging time as short as 30 minutes for the 52kWh car using a suitable 100kW DC charger. Temperature, battery condition and charger output influence the actual stop; peak power does not describe the entire charging session.

Which Micra Battery Should You Choose?

Start with your longest regular drive and access to charging. Both versions keep the same compact footprint: Nissan's current UK dimensions page lists 3,974mm length, 1,774mm width and 1,498mm height. The boot holds up to 326 litres, increasing to 1,106 litres with the rear seats folded.

Pro-Tips:

  • Choose 40kWh for predictable local use: Check that your daily mileage leaves a comfortable reserve during colder weather.
  • Choose 52kWh for frequent longer trips: The extra 99km of claimed range gives more flexibility between stops.
  • Check charging costs before ordering: Compare home and public tariffs against your expected mileage, then weigh the larger battery's purchase premium against the convenience you will actually use.
