British brand Aston Martin is looking for a new owner, say several sources in the auto industry. Aston Martin is owned by a Kuwait consortium, Investment Dar, Inc., but it seems to be for sale.
If a few months ago rumors surfaced that Aston Martin will collaborate with Lotus, today the automotive industry talks about a possible sale of the brand Aston Martin.
Aston was owned by Ford until 2007 then they sold the brand to an investment fund in Kuwait. Aston Martin still gets engines from Ford, but it lost all access to Ford’s other technologies after the sale. It seems that Middle East investors are no longer doing so well and the current shareholders majority are looking for a new owner.
It seems that the main candidate is India's Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., but there were discussions with other big names in the industry. Even Japan's Toyota would be interested in buying some Aston Martin shares. Kuwait investment fund requires $ 800 million for the majority of shares.
