New Ford Puma Sound Edition Debuts with 650W B&O Audio and 376 km EV Range

Ford Puma Sound Edition

Flagship Trim Launches Ford Collection Lineup

The 2025 Ford Puma Sound Edition leads Ford’s new limited-series lineup, branded the Ford Collection. This Puma variant adds real consumer value: enhanced B&O sound, exclusive styling, and everyday practicality — all at a starting price of $34,800 USD (approx. 379,600 NOK). Unlike appearance-only packages, the Sound Edition offers hardware upgrades and a recalibrated cabin experience built around audiophile-level sound and efficient electric performance.

Powertrain and Range: Daily Usability Locked In

Ford claims up to 376 km (234 miles) of range using the WLTP cycle. A 10-minute fast charge adds 124 km (77 miles), making it suitable for urban commutes and suburban flexibility.

Key specifications:

SpecDetail
PowertrainElectric (Puma Gen-E)
Range (WLTP)376 km (234 miles)
Fast Charging (10 min)124 km (77 miles)
DC Fast Charging CapabilityYes
Frunk (Front Trunk)43 liters
Cargo Capacity (rear)523 liters (best in class)

No mechanical performance boost has been confirmed, which suggests the Sound Edition uses the same single-motor setup as the base Ford Puma Gen-E. Ford has not announced horsepower or torque figures for this variant.

Audio Tech: 650 Watts of Tuned Precision

The biggest differentiator is sound. This model features an upgraded 650-watt B&O Performance System with 10 individually tuned speakers — a jump from the 575-watt unit available on the standard Puma Gen-E.

What’s new:

  • Upgraded “midwoofers” in front doors for stronger low and mid-range frequencies.
  • Sound tuning by HARMAN engineers using live acoustic adjustment and software calibration.
  • System optimized for both music and spoken word (audiobooks, podcasts).
  • No distortion at high volumes across all seat positions.

Stefan Varga, Principal Engineer at HARMAN, emphasized clarity across all content types: “This edition pushes clarity forward, whether it’s classical, hip-hop or a podcast.”

Exterior: Clean and Subtle Distinction

The Sound Edition avoids flashy styling but incorporates quiet detailing:

  • Magnetite-finish alloy wheels
  • Available in three paint options, including exclusive Metropolis White, a pearlescent metallic.
  • Black-painted roof and mirror caps standard.

This color combo introduces more contrast and presence, giving the compact SUV a clean, upscale aesthetic aimed at younger urban professionals.

Interior: Functional with Premium Touchpoints

Ford enhances the interior without introducing complexity. Key changes:

  • New Metal Grey seat fabric
  • Two-tone dashboard with light/dark contrast
  • Light grey door panels for brighter cabin ambiance

These changes support cabin acoustics and add to the sense of space and light inside what is still a relatively compact vehicle.

Target Audience: Buyers Who Want More Than Range

Ford’s strategy is aimed directly at tech-first urban buyers who expect more from EVs than just range and efficiency. The average buyer for this car values:

  • Audio fidelity as a daily necessity, not a luxury
  • Quick charging capability
  • Understated exclusivity through design

They are not looking for the fastest or longest-range EV. They want standout features that impact daily use — like immersive audio and a comfortable interior.

Trim and Equipment Strategy: Built on ST-Line X

The Sound Edition is based on the Ford Puma Gen-E ST-Line X trim. This means it includes:

  • Full digital cluster
  • SYNC infotainment with OTA updates
  • Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto
  • Heated steering wheel and seats
  • Driver assistance suite with adaptive cruise, lane keeping, and blind spot warning

The trim approach allows Ford to limit production cost while delivering the feel of a bespoke product.

Global Strategy: Ford Collection Rolls Out in Tiers

The Sound Edition is Ford Collection’s debut model. The strategy includes:

  • Low-volume production
  • High feature content
  • Trim-based exclusivity

Other Sound Edition models include the Ford Kuga Sound Edition and Ford Puma EcoBoost Hybrid. The Kuga variant pushes audio to 700 watts and adds more complex componentry (dedicated tweeters and woofers).

Ford's use of the Collection label provides marketing flexibility and allows feature-specific launches without redesigns. That keeps cost low and rollout fast.

Competitive Set

The Sound Edition competes with:

ModelStarting Price (USD)Highlight Feature
Volvo EX30$34,950Clean interface, 275-mile range
Hyundai Kona Electric$32,675Efficiency and warranty
Peugeot e-2008 GT$35,000 (est.)French design, premium cabin
Jeep Avenger EV$33,900 (est.)Compact, rugged styling
Ford Puma Sound Edition$34,800650W sound system, 376 km range

While others offer more horsepower or larger batteries, none match the Puma Sound Edition’s sound experience at this price.

Verdict: Direct Value, No Gimmicks

This model delivers clear daily-use benefits. The enhanced B&O system is not just branding; it brings a measurable experience upgrade. Ford targets buyers who want useful luxury without paying for features they won’t use.

This is not a performance EV, nor does it chase range records. Instead, it’s a tightly focused product with one mission: to dominate the sound-first compact SUV segment — if such a thing now exists.

The 2025 Ford Puma Sound Edition is available to order in Europe as of July 2025. U.S. availability is unconfirmed, but Ford’s expansion of the Collection line suggests this format could appear stateside soon.
