Renault Espace, the iconic French SUV, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in November with the launch of its latest model. The new Espace retains its predecessor's signature combination of spaciousness, elegance, and technology while incorporating cutting-edge advancements that make it a true masterpiece of automotive engineering.
Since its inception in 1983, the Renault Espace has been an icon of Renault's focus on design, practicality, and new technology. As the first "voiture a vivre," or car designed to live in, the Espace was an innovative solution that transformed the car industry by creating a completely new car segment - the MPV.
Over the years, the Renault Espace has undergone several transformations, with each new generation surpassing the previous one in terms of design, technology, and luxury. The second generation, launched in 1991, boasted a more streamlined design and advanced 4x4 system. The third generation, introduced in 1996, had the Grand Espace version that offered even more space and luxury.
The fourth generation, launched in 2002, came with an Initiale Paris version with a large 2.16 m2 glass roof, offering more light and air. The fifth generation, unveiled in 2014, had grown significantly and featured the 4 Control system, where the car steers with/against the rear wheels to make it more agile in the city and more direct in its steering at higher speeds.
