VW shows new Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake

Volkswagen Arteon

Volkswagen introduced the second generation of the Arteon. The mid-range car will continue to be offered as a hatchback sedan and for the first time also in the Arteon Shooting Brake estate. The engine range includes plug-in hybrid technology.

In the fresh Arteon, apart from the new aprons, the new, optional light strip is particularly striking. The rear has LED taillights with a new light graphic, the rear apron has a new design. With the rims, the Arteon starts - regardless of whether Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake - with 17-inch rims, optionally up to  20 inches are possible. VW is also adapting its range of equipment lines. In future, there will be the basic model  "Arteon", "Elegance" and the "R-Line".

All Arteon have in common the new cockpit because the days of a simple Passat copy are now finally over.  The Volkswagen Arteon becomes independent and receives a completely redesigned dashboard and a brand new steering wheel. 11.7-inch digital instruments are always standard in the top VW models. The redesigned dashboard finally loses the old analogue clock.

The  MIB 3 infotainment still comes with the familiar 9.2-inch touchscreen but has a completely new base. The Arteon is now always online.

For the first time, the Arteon is said to be able to travel up to 50 km fully electrically. VW has added a plug-in hybrid to both versions.

Friends of classic drives can choose from two further petrol and diesel engines. The entry is made by a 150hp engine, the top diesel in the Arteon makes it to 200hp. Both diesel engines are said to be particularly "green" thanks to twin-dosing exhaust cleaning.

All engines are fitted with a double-clutch transmission as standard, all-wheel drive is available as an option.

The market launch for the facelift for the Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake should be in the second half of 2020, and the R model is likely to be around 2021. VW is still silent about the prices of the new Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake.
