The new Acura ZDX & ZDX Type S: The Luxury SUVs That Can Outrun a Ferrari

2024 Acura ZDX

Brand

  • Acura

Acura, the luxury brand of Honda, has unveiled its new flagship SUVs for 2024: the ZDX and the ZDX Type S. These are not your typical family haulers. They are high-performance, hybrid-electric vehicles that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, faster than some supercars like the Ferrari 488 GTB.

The Acura ZDX and the Acura ZDX Type S are the first Acura models to feature the brand’s new e-AWD system, which combines a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with three electric motors, one for each rear wheel and one for the front axle. The system delivers a total of 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque for the ZDX and 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque for the Acura ZDX Type S.

The e-AWD system also enhances the handling and stability of the SUVs, as it can vary the torque distribution among the four wheels depending on the driving conditions and the driver’s inputs. The system can also send up to 100% of the torque to either the front or the rear axle or to a single rear wheel, creating a torque vectoring effect that helps the SUVs corner more sharply and smoothly.

A New Design Language for Acura

The Acura ZDX and the ZDX Type S are the first Acura models to showcase the brand’s new design language, which is inspired by the NSX, the brand’s flagship sports car. The SUVs feature a sleek and muscular body with sharp lines, sculpted surfaces, and a low and wide stance. The signature diamond pentagon grille dominates the front fascia, flanked by slim LED headlights and large air intakes. The rear end features a distinctive LED light bar that spans the width of the tailgate and a dual exhaust system with chrome tips.

The 2024 Acura ZDX and the ZDX Type S also have some unique design elements that differentiate them from each other. The Acura ZDX Type S has a more aggressive and sporty look, with a blacked-out grille, a larger rear spoiler, a rear diffuser, and 21-inch alloy wheels with a dark finish. The ZDX has a more elegant and refined look, with a chrome grille, a smaller rear spoiler, and 20-inch alloy wheels with a silver finish.

A Premium and Tech-Savvy Interior

The ZDX and the ZDX Type S interior are designed to offer a premium and tech-savvy experience for the driver and passengers. The SUVs can accommodate up to five people, with ample headroom, legroom, and cargo space. The seats are wrapped in leather, with heating, ventilation, and massage functions for the front seats and heating and reclining functions for the rear seats. The driver’s seat also has a memory function that can store up to two profiles.

The dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that can display various information and settings, such as speed, fuel level, battery charge, driving modes, navigation, and entertainment. The center console features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and wireless charging. The system also has a 17-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 360-degree camera system.

The ZDX and the ZDX Type S also come with a host of advanced safety and driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition. The SUVs also have a head-up display that projects key information onto the windshield and a 10.5-inch full-color display that shows the rear view when the driver shifts into reverse.

A Competitive Price for a Luxury SUV

The Acura ZDX and the Acura ZDX Type S are expected to hit the US market in the spring of 2024, with a starting price of $64,500 and $72,500, respectively. These prices are competitive for the luxury SUV segment, as they are lower than some rivals, such as the BMW X5, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the Audi Q7.

The ZDX and the ZDX Type S are also expected to offer good value for money, as they come with a generous warranty and maintenance package. The SUVs have a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, a 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty, and an 8-year/100,000-mile hybrid component warranty. They also have a complimentary 3-year/36,000-mile maintenance plan covering oil changes, tire rotations, and other routine services.

The ZDX and the ZDX Type S are the latest additions to the Acura lineup, including the ILX, the TLX, the RDX, and the NSX. The brand aims to attract more customers looking for luxury, performance, and technology in their vehicles. The ZDX and the ZDX Type S are the ultimate expressions of Acura’s vision, as they combine the best of both worlds: the practicality and versatility of an SUV and the exhilaration and excitement of a sports car.
