The new Peugeot 2008: a premium SUV with a 48V hybrid and an electric boost

Peugeot 2008

The Peugeot 2008, one of the best-selling small SUVs in Europe, has been updated with a new design, features, and powertrains. The most notable addition is the 48V hybrid variant, which will join the lineup in 2024 and offer improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The electric e-2008 also gets a boost in range and power, making it a more attractive choice for eco-conscious buyers.

New design for the Peugeot 2008

The new Peugeot 2008 sports a more premium and assertive look, thanks to the new Peugeot shield logo that dominates the front end. The grille has a lateral pattern that connects to the LED headlights, which have a distinctive three-claw signature. The bumper also features gloss black inserts with vertical LED daytime running lights.

The rear of the Peugeot 2008 has also been redesigned, with LED tail lamps with a three-claw light signature made of three superimposed horizontal double slats. The reversing lights and indicators are also LEDs. The badges on the front, side, and rear have a new typeface that matches the new logo.

The Peugeot 2008 is available in eight colors, including two new ones: Celebes Blue and Vertigo Blue. The GT and First Edition models also get exclusive Black Diamond roofs and Black Pack options, which add gloss black accents to the exterior.

New features for the Peugeot 2008

The interior of the Peugeot 2008 has been upgraded with new materials and technologies, enhancing the comfort and convenience of the passengers. The i-Cockpit digital dashboard has a new 10-inch display with a 3D effect, which can be customized with different colors and layouts. The i-Connect infotainment system has a 10-inch touchscreen with physical piano-key shortcut buttons, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and optional TomTom sat-nav.

The Peugeot 2008 also offers a range of driver assistance and safety features, such as:

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Driver attention alert
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • 360-degree parking camera
  • Park Assist

The Peugeot 2008 also has a Drive Mode Selector, which allows the driver to choose between three modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. The e-2008 has two additional modes: Comfort and Individual. The Grip Control system, available on some models, enhances the traction on different terrains, such as sand, mud, and snow, and comes with all-season tires.

New powertrains for the Peugeot 2008

The Peugeot 2008 offers a choice of petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains, depending on the market and the trim level. The petrol engine is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder PureTech unit, with either 99 bhp or 128 bhp, and a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engine is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder BlueHDi unit, with 99 bhp or 128 bhp, and a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The most exciting addition to the Peugeot 2008 lineup is the 48V hybrid variant, which will be available in 2024. This powertrain combines a new-generation 136 bhp 1.2-liter PureTech petrol engine with a new six-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox that includes an electric motor. The 48V hybrid system can operate on electricity up to 50 percent of the time when driving in town. It can reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 percent and CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent, compared to the conventional petrol engine.

The electric e-2008 also gets a significant upgrade, with a larger 54 kWh battery and a more powerful 154 bhp motor. This results in a longer range of up to 251 miles and a faster acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds. The battery can be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes using a 100 kW rapid charger or in 7 hours and 30 minutes using a 7 kW wallbox. An optional 11 kW three-phase on-board charger is also available.

Peugeot 2008 trim levels and prices

The Peugeot 2008 has four trim levels: Active, Allure, GT, and First Edition. The Active trim is the entry-level option and comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, and an i-Connect infotainment system. The Allure trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, front parking sensors, and roof rails. The GT trim is sporty and comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, and i-Cockpit 3D dashboard. The First Edition trim is the most exclusive option and comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, and wireless charging.

The prices for the Peugeot 2008 start from $33,600 for the Active 1.2L PureTech 100 S&S, and go up to $58,100 for the First Edition Electric 54kWh 156. The 48V hybrid variant will be priced later.
