Renault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC Turns LPG Into a 901-Mile Range Advantage

Renault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC

Renault has given the Clio Eco-G 120 hp EDC a very specific job: cut running costs without forcing buyers into a full hybrid or EV. The result lands as a factory-built petrol and LPG bi-fuel hatchback with 120 hp, 200 Nm of torque, a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and a claimed total range of up to 1,450 km, or about 901 miles.

That number matters. In a supermini segment where buyers still care about monthly cost, fuel access, insurance bands, and long-distance flexibility, the new Renault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC gives business users and private drivers a low-CO2 combustion option that does not ask them to change how they drive.

Renault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC Specs

The hardware starts with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine adapted for LPG operation. Renault rates output at 120 hp and 200 Nm, which gives this Eco-G version 20 hp and 30 Nm more than the previous Clio Eco-G 100.

SpecificationRenault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC
Engine1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo
Displacement1,200 cc
Power120 hp / 90 kW
Torque200 Nm / 148 lb-ft
GearboxEDC dual-clutch automatic
Petrol tank39 litres / 10.3 US gal
LPG tank50 litres / 13.2 US gal
Total claimed range1,450 km / 901 miles
0-100 km/h9.8 seconds
Boot volume260 litres / 9.2 cu ft

Looking at the data, Renault did not chase headline speed. It targeted usable torque, automatic-drive comfort, and fuel-cost logic. The EDC dual-clutch automatic keeps one clutch ready for the next gear while the other transmits drive, so shifts happen with less torque interruption than a conventional single-clutch automated manual.

Why The LPG System Makes Sense

The big engineering move sits under the floor. Renault raised LPG tank capacity by 25 percent, from 40 litres to 50 litres, then paired it with a 39-litre petrol tank. Consequently, the Clio can run on either fuel, giving drivers fuel-price flexibility and a long refuelling interval.

Fuel ModeConsumptionCO2 EmissionsPractical Meaning
LPG6.5 l/100 km105 g/kmLower CO2 and lower pump cost
Petrol5.4 l/100 km122 g/kmWider fuel availability
Combined tanksUp to 1,450 kmVaries by fuel useLong-distance flexibility

Specifically, LPG burns with lower carbon intensity than petrol, which explains the lower CO2 figure despite higher litres-per-100-km consumption. The fuel contains less energy per litre, so the engine uses more volume, but pump prices can make the per-mile cost attractive.

Pro-Tip: Who Should Buy The Eco-G 120 EDC?

Choose the Renault Clio Techno Eco-G 120 hp EDC if you cover high annual mileage, have easy LPG access, and want an automatic gearbox without paying full-hybrid money. Buyers who mostly drive short city trips and lack nearby LPG pumps should compare the TCe 115 EDC and E-Tech 160 hybrid before ordering.

Price And Positioning In The Clio Range

Renault opens the Eco-G 120 EDC from 21,900 euros, roughly $23,650 using a rounded 1.08 conversion rate. Monthly leasing starts from 220 euros, or about $238. By comparison, the TCe 115 starts from about $21,490, while the E-Tech 160 hybrid starts from about $26,570.

That pricing gives the Clio LPG automatic a sharp role. It costs the same as the equivalent petrol Evolution TCe 115 EDC in Renault's announcement, yet adds stronger torque, LPG capability, and the extended range claim.

Dimensions And Daily Use

Eurotarget's Techno listing points to a 4,117 mm length, 1,768 mm width, 1,451 mm height, and 2,591 mm wheelbase. Converted, that means 162.1 inches long, 69.6 inches wide, 57.1 inches tall, with a 102.0-inch wheelbase.

Those numbers keep the Clio easy to park, but the platform still gives five doors, five seats, and useful load flexibility.

What Now?

The Renault Clio Eco-G 120 EDC deserves attention because it answers a real cost question: how can a compact European hatchback cut CO2 and fuel bills without becoming expensive or electric? Renault's answer uses proven LPG hardware, a modern turbo engine, and an automatic gearbox that suits commuting better than older low-cost manuals.

The key buying test stays simple: check LPG availability near home, work, and regular motorway routes. Then compare the real fuel price gap against the hybrid premium. From an expert perspective, this Clio works best for drivers who want high range, low running costs, and simple refuelling more than EV charging or maximum acceleration.
