New Ford Puma SUV: pricing and spec details

Ford Puma

Presented at the beginning of the summer, the Ford Puma does not wait for the arrival of autumn to reveal its rates. Prices that start quite high, but only lightweight hybrid versions are available at launch.

Hybridization, however slight, is never gratuitous. The prices of the Puma, the last small SUV of Ford: at first, they start at 22 900 €, when the new Juke of Nissan has already announced a base price of 19 990 €. With a power quite close, since the Japanese boasts of 117 hp while the American claims 125. But in the immediate future, the Puma offers its three-cylinder version "MHEV", so with a powerful alternator -starter that adds fifteen horses to support the electric motor in certain phases and reduce consumption. In correlated NEDC, CO2 emissions thus remain below the 100 g / km mark, whereas they are limited to 125 g under the new WLTP cycle that will be taken into account for calculating the malus next year.

For an additional $ 1,000, the 1.0 Ecoboost climbs to 155 hp, while maintaining the same light hybridization. The increase in CO2 does not exceed 3 g / km. But these high prices are also explained by the lack of a true basic version for now. The range starts with the Titanium finish, which is already very well equipped: the 8-inch touchscreen, the Europe-based navigation system, the 17-inch alloy wheels, the air-conditioning, the automatic key-switch passage or even seats.

Puma’s new 48V mild-hybrid drivetrain is based on an updated version of Ford’s 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol unit and replaces the conventional alternator with an 11.5kW integrated starter/generator (called a BISG). It will come in 123bhp and 153bhp guises, with the more powerful version using a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

A 1.5-liter diesel with a six-speed manual gearbox will also be offered at a later date and is expected to be rated at 123g/km.

Norbert Steffens, chief engineer, Ford Puma: "The 1.5-liter diesel engine is still slightly more economical than the new hybrid petrol under WLTP testing conditions. We absolutely believe that the latest diesel engines are now completely clean [in pollution terms], as clean as petrol. The diesel Puma has a 12-liter urea tank which will need refilling every 2500 and 6000 kilometers. Winter conditions and many short journeys mean much more regular AdBlue fill-ups, but that is how we ensure the lowest pollution."

Your safety is our concern, starting with alerting you to potential collision hazards to intelligent systems that help you maintain traction and stability. That's why Ford Puma comes with smart assistive technologies, all designed to help and protect you, your family, and other traffic participants.

In addition to the imposing presence and beautifully sculpted exterior, the new Ford Puma is balanced by carefully thought-out functionality. It offers real versatility through the details of its design.

For many, the 4 000 € claimed by the variant Ford Puma ST-Line X, only other variant proposed at launch, may, therefore, seem superfluous. But in addition to a more dynamic presentation, a sports chassis or rear brake discs, they provide automatic climate control, a start button, a B & O audio system or digital instrumentation. The range will not fail to expand from below as from above.

The EcoBoost hybrid engines available for the Puma offer outstanding performance, along with impressive fuel economy and noticeably lower CO 2 emissions than conventional gasoline engines.
