Renault has started rolling out Google Gemini to compatible vehicles with openR link with Google built-in. The free over-the-air deployment began, covering eligible cars already on the road and new vehicles. Owners need a Google Account, a supported language and the correct openR link version. They can accept the upgrade on the centre display or return to Google Assistant later.
What Google Gemini Changes Inside Renault Cars
Gemini replaces rigid command syntax with conversational context. Specifically, a driver can say that the cabin feels cold, and Gemini can interpret the intent and raise the temperature. It can also process a route request with an exclusion, such as reaching Paris while avoiding the ring road.

In addition, native integration gives Gemini access to supported vehicle functions, including climate control, heated seats, radio, settings and Google Maps navigation. Electric Renaults can feed remaining range into route planning. Consequently, the assistant can pair a destination with vehicle data instead of handling maps as a detached phone service.

openR link Versus Android Auto
Renault's implementation runs through the car's own connectivity. By comparison, Android Auto projects services from a compatible phone and does not offer the same guaranteed access to Renault hardware.

Renault shows the software on a 10-inch, 254-mm screen in the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and a 12-inch, 305-mm screen in the Renault Megane electric. That creates a 2-inch, 50.8-mm diagonal difference, but screen size does not set eligibility. Renault bases access on the openR link version, deployment wave and language.
Availability and Supported Languages
The rollout covers compatible Renault models across Europe, from Twingo to Rafale, plus international products such as Renault Boreal and the Duster sold in India. Renault supports 13 languages at launch:
- English, French, German, Swedish and Dutch
- Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Polish
- Portuguese, Danish, Norwegian and Turkish
Gemini Live will follow through a later update. Renault says it will support interruptions, consecutive questions without repeating 'Hey Google' and mid-conversation language changes.

Sign into your Google Account on the car, connect the vehicle and watch for the Gemini opt-in prompt. Accept it, then use 'Hey Google', the screen microphone or the steering-wheel voice button. A missing prompt usually means Renault has not reached that car's software wave yet. The update costs nothing, requires no workshop visit and leaves the existing connectivity-offer duration unchanged.
