The new 5-tonne Ford Transit: heavy duty van

Today, Ford announced the introduction of the new 5.0-tonne Transit model, offering customers a van or chassis cab with a maximum mass of 5,000 kg. the most powerful and capable Ford Transit will be available at Ford dealers at the end of November.

Ford's most powerful Transit model has important mechanical upgrades to provide customers with the highest payload capacity while maintaining the sustainability, refinement and similar driving characteristics that have made Transit a preferred business model.

5-tonne Ford Transit 2021 commercial van

Ford offers the 5.0-tonne option in a wide range of Transit chassis cab variants, giving customers a choice of three wheelbases, four frame lengths and single or double cabs with seats for up to seven occupants. The maximum load capacity of the chassis cab is 2,886 kg.

The increased total mass and the optional 10-speed automatic transmission make the new 5.0-tonne Transit an extremely capable emergency response vehicle for ambulances and police vehicles. The cab version with the Transit chassis is also suitable for conversion into mini-coaches and high-capacity wheelchair friendly vehicles.

The 5.0-tonne Transit commercial vehicle is also available as the popular Ford Jumbo L4 van with a raised roof and a net payload of up to 2,383 kg and enough space to carry five freight euro pallets. The flat loading floor, anchoring hooks, integrated rear bumper step and loading length of 4,217 mm is designed to facilitate the loading and transport of large objects.

All 5.0-tonne Transit variants have a rear-wheel-drive for optimum propulsion when fully loaded and are equipped with Ford's HDT propulsion system for optimum durability, performance and fuel efficiency. The 170 hp EcoBlue diesel engine with a capacity of 2.0 litres offers up to 390 Nm of torque. To facilitate the movement of heavy loads, the 5.0-tonne Transit utilises a six-speed manual gearbox that shifts easily or the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 5.0-ton Transit model introduces a 3,500 kg rear axle for the first time in Europe, which has already proven its strength and durability. If the van is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a new 2,100 kg axle is also fitted, which offers an additional load capacity of 225 kg compared to the standard version.

Ford's innovative connectivity features also help operators plan maintenance and monitor vehicle safety, which increases service life. A fresh FordPass Connect model comes standard, allowing remote software updates to reduce service visits and display key information such as vehicle location, oil life and tire pressure.

The new 5-tonne Transit benefits from all the safety, connectivity and driver assistance technologies introduced to the Transit range at the end of 2019.
