The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer plug-in hybrid with 225 hp

Opel Astra Sports Tourer

The current generation of Opel Astra made its international debut in September with the five-door variant, and the Opel Astra Sports Tourer is already following. The German automaker is displaying an entirely new station wagon version of its small class hit. From the outset, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer will be offered as a plug-in hybrid, making it the brand's first electrified station wagon. The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer maintains the brand's legacy of successful small station wagons that began over 60 years ago with the Kadett Caravan, the first compact class station wagon from a German company.

"The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer is an all-rounder for a new era, electric, computerized, and excitingly styled. We blend our lengthy history of tiny station wagons with cutting-edge advancements like plug-in hybrid technology. With the wonderful-looking Sports Tourer, we are certain that we will attract new consumers for Opel," says Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Opel's CEO.

When it comes to driving, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer has it all: The electrified variants work in tandem with the very efficient petrol and diesel engines. The power range for the combustion engines ranges from 81 kW / 110 hp to 96 kW / 130 hp, while the Opel Astra Sports Tourer plug-in hybrids have a starting power of 133 kW / 180 hp and a system output of 165 kW / 225 hp. The gasoline and diesel engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission; an eight-speed automatic transmission is optional for the more powerful sports tourer automobiles.

The 2022 Opel Astra Sports Tourer, with its modest external dimensions of 4.64 x 1.86 x 1.48 meters and a loading sill height of roughly 60 centimeters, demonstrates that it is an all-rounder, combining athletic style with Opel's generally economical packing. Moreover, despite a wheelbase increase of seven centimeters to 2.73 meters (+ 5.7 cm compared to the new Opel Astra five-door), the new Astra Sports Tourer is six centimeters shorter than the previous model due to its notably low front overhang.

The baggage compartment of the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer offers more than 608 liters of storage space even with the rear seats up; with the seats folded down, the capacity climbs to more than 1,634 liters. Moreover, the conventional 40:20:40 folding rear seats and the rear compartment allow for a perfectly flat loading surface in this instance. As a result, there is ample room for many luggage and work supplies and larger objects like a transport box for a medium-sized dog. There's also enough room in the plug-in hybrid variants, which have lithium-ion batteries incorporated into the underbody: the Astra Sports Tourer plug-in hybrid has a rear compartment that carries more than 548 liters (1,574 liters).

With combustion engines, the optional "Intelli-Space" loading floor expands the trunk's versatility even further. The removable load compartment cover improves comfort as well. If necessary, it can be stored beneath regardless of the loading floor's fixed height - unlike other rivals, where this is only allowed with a raised loading floor. Furthermore, "Intelli-Space" provides easy access to the tire repair kit in the (unlikely) event of a flat tire. The first-aid box is practical and space-saving in the back; it can be reached from both the back seat and the trunk without having to remove all of your belongings. Furthermore, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer's tailgate may be opened and closed automatically.

The attractive Astra Sports Tourer, like the five-door, is a true style statement from the brand - and the first Opel station wagon to demonstrate the robust and unambiguous design philosophy in its unique manner. The new Opel Vizor brand face represents the Opel design compass, in which two axes connect with the Opel lightning bolt in the center. The prominent, Opel-typical wrinkle on the bonnet determines the vertical axis. The front of the Vizor is defined by a horizontal line that extends to the wing-shaped graphic of the LED daytime running lights. Simultaneously, the Vizor effortlessly incorporates technology such as the adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel headlamps and the front camera into its elegant "visor."

The interior of the Sports Tourer, like that of the five-door counterpart, has advanced with time. The completely digital Pure Panel provides an intuitive user experience to the customer as a human-machine interface (H uman M achine I nterface = HMI) of the future generation. Passengers utilize an extra-wide touchscreen, similar to their smartphone, to do this. Simultaneously, commonly used settings such as air conditioning may be selected immediately with a few switches. In addition, cable clutter is a thing of the past with the new Astra: the new generation of entertainment systems comes standard with the ability to pair compatible smartphones in all model versions.

The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer sets the tone with its cutting-edge innovations, making it accessible and cheap to the small station wagon market. The latest generation of the adaptable Intelli-Lux LED pixel light is a standout in the greatest sense of the word. The lighting system is derived straight from the Opel flagships Insignia and Grandland and, with 168 LED components, is a small and mid-range market leader.

The new Astra Sports Tourer's superb seating comfort is also typical of Opel. The in-house developed front chairs are AGR-certified and among the best in their class; depending on the equipment, they provide a variety of adjustment capabilities, including electro-pneumatic lumbar support and side bolster customization. In addition, the driver's seat features air conditioning and a massage function in the Nappa leather version, and the front and outer rear seats may be heated.

The driver is backed by cutting-edge assistance systems ranging from the Intelli-HuD (head-up display) to the Intelli-Drive 2.0 system. Furthermore, a unique technology increases awareness and safety in moving traffic by alerting the driver as soon as his hands leave the steering wheel. @via Opel.
