The new Peugeot 408 plug-in hybrid with 225 hp revealed

2023 Peugeot 408 plug-in hybrid

With the new Peugeot 408, the french brand demonstrates the originality of its teams and offers a new fastback silhouette in the C segment: the Peugeot 408 is the first of its kind in the history of the brand and on the current car market. Furthermore, this new generation Peugeot features cutting-edge styling and technologies geared toward performance and efficient electrification to facilitate intuitive driving.

The new Peugeot 408 stands out from the crowd thanks to its innovative design and sporty fastback profile. The feline silhouette is iconic for this design house's products. The lines are sharp, and the grille is body-colored (standard from GT trim level upwards ) and blends into the front fascia. The powerful personality of the model can be traced back to the design of its rear bumper. The new Peugeot 408 rests securely on large 720 mm wheels, and the 20-inch (50.8 cm) wheels (for the GT optional trim level) stand out thanks to their unique, broken geometric design. With the characteristic light signature at the front and the LED lights with three claws at the rear, the Peugeot 408 fits into the model range of the lion brand.

The new Peugeot 408's second row is roomy, with an impressive 188 mm knee room, thanks to its long wheelbase of 2.79 meters and overall length of 4.69 meters. The trunk is also spacious, holding 536 liters when the rear seats are up and 1,611 liters when they are folded down. The Peugeot 408 is 1.48 meters high and has a slim and elegant silhouette. This increases aerodynamic efficiency by decreasing the frontal area (SCx from 0.661 m 2) and the drag coefficient (Cx from 0.295) depending on the engine and wheels (subject to homologation).

The Peugeot i-Cockpit, in its newest iteration, is standard equipment in the Peugeot 408, providing drivers and passengers with a compact steering wheel optimized for driving pleasure and regulated agility. In addition, an emphasis is placed on a high-quality interior and up-to-date technological systems to make driving and traveling more natural.

The new Peugeot 408 has various engine options, including two plug-in hybrid models with 180 hp (132 kW) and 225 hp (165 kW) and a combustion engine. All engines are paired with an EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. A few months later, an all-electric variant will hit the market.

The designers of the Peugeot 408 prioritized efficiency, as evidenced by the car's adoption of aerodynamic improvements, reduction in curb weight, and use of low-emission powertrains.

From 2023, consumers will be able to purchase the all-new Peugeot 408. For the European market, production of the new lion model will begin in Mulhouse, France, and then move to the Chengdu plant in China.

Quote from Linda Jackson, Peugeot's global chief executive officer: "At Peugeot, we believe that life gets better when you speed it up. The new Peugeot 408 embodies the company's design ethos and spirit of innovation with its striking good looks, cutting-edge fastback silhouette, and refined demeanor. The new Peugeot 408 was created for those who are tired of the status quo and are interested in finding a more responsible form of driving fun. In addition, Peugeot's technological needs are met, including regulated efficiency and a premium digital experience.

The new Peugeot 408 rounds out the lion brand's offerings in the crucial C-segment of compact vehicles. With the success of the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 SUVs, as well as three generations of the Peugeot 308 Saloon and the Peugeot 308 SW Estate, the newest generation of which has just debuted on the market, Peugeot has risen to the top of the segment in recent years. The Peugeot 408 is aimed squarely at those looking for a luxurious C-segment sedan.

The new Peugeot 408 is a modern automobile: quick, connected, and a blast to drive. Peugeot's clientele values originality and the mixing of things that aren't traditionally grouped.

The new Peugeot 408 provides a state-of-the-art networked environment. The latest information and entertainment system is user-friendly and well-designed. It bridges the gap between the smartphone and car, allowing for seamless integration. The display, ambiance, and configuration options can be tailored to your preferences. In addition, the system can save up to eight unique user profiles.

The new Peugeot 408 satisfies many customer requirements, making it a good choice for busy couples who need a car for personal and professional use. This is because it is a roomy, large vehicle with an original silhouette and a modern driving experience, making it suitable for short, errand-oriented trips and long, relaxing drives.
