Skoda Scala: style, sobriety and elegance

Skoda Scala: style, sobriety and elegance

The new Skoda Scala replaces Rapid Spaceback. It is taller, better and more beautiful.

Scala is Rapid Spaceback's successor. It has always been in the shadow of Fabia and Octavia. The Skoda Scala wants to get out of this corner now, with a new design, a new gauge and fresh technology. Unlike its predecessor, the Scala is built on the modular platform of the VW group.

In this case, it is the MQB A0, which is also used by Audi A1, Seat Ibiza and VW Polo. The Czech model has a length of 4.36 meters, being ten centimetres longer than the Volkswagen Golf. The front is sharp, the headlights are tilted, and the consoles are short. We can all agree that it looks better than Rapid Spaceback. The most interesting design element is the rear window, where the new Skoda inscription replaces the logo.

The interior of the new Skoda Scala is clear and modern. Skoda offers the option of replacing the analogue instrumentation with a very good digital one, and the media unit can benefit from a touchscreen with a maximum diagonal of 9.2 inches. Also, the new Skoda comes with an integrated SIM card to keep you permanently connected.

The Czech company has paid special attention to the quality of the materials, without hard plastics in the contact areas or cheap materials that ruin an interior that, on the contrary, denotes style, sobriety and elegance. Everything is well lit by the standard panoramic glass roof in the Style finish.

There is an incredible amount of space, especially in the back. This should be accurately measured in a detailed test, but the Scale will probably be among the best in the compact class. In addition, it comes with a storage space that offers a minimum of 467 litres. The boot can be extended up to 1,410 litres (VW Golf's boot has between 380 and 1,270 litres).

The Skoda Scala range has five powertrains: three on petrol, one 1.6-litre diesel engine with 115 hp and one 1.0 G-Tec (90 hp), which runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). The 1.0 TSI engine is available in two variants, 95 hp or 115 hp. The top model is represented by 1.5 TSI, which comes with 150 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm.

The suspension is optimally adjusted for comfort, but for those who want a little more excitement, we recommend the adaptive suspension, which offers several modes of driving.

Prices for the Skoda Scala start from 15,415 euros with VAT for the 1.0 TSI version with 115 hp and manual transmission, while the 95 hp engine later reaches the dealership.
