Toyota’s 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition makes its debut at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This concept vehicle pushes the boundaries of the compact crossover segment, transforming the Corolla Cross into an off-road-capable, lifestyle-focused build aimed at outdoor enthusiasts and hybrid loyalists alike.

Designed for Real-World Adventure

Developed by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team, the Nasu Edition draws inspiration from Japan’s Mt. Nasu, a region famous for hiking and hot springs. SPAD engineers were tasked with building a Corolla Cross that could embody that adventurous spirit while remaining rooted in Toyota’s focus on function and reliability.

The result is a concept that balances engineering precision with practicality. The project used CAD design, 3D printing, CNC machining, and multi-location assembly—a hands-on approach to creating an accessory-driven hybrid ready for the trail.

Hybrid Efficiency Meets AWD Capability

Under the hood, the Nasu Edition retains the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid’s 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with three electric motors, producing a total output of 196 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive system channels this power through custom Toyota truck wheels fitted with Toyo Open Country A/T III all-terrain tires.

A custom suspension lift adds ground clearance, enhancing its off-road stance. The combination of hybrid efficiency and all-terrain capability targets drivers who demand both fuel economy and adventure-readiness.

Bold Exterior and Functional Design

The Nasu Edition’s design moves beyond typical crossover aesthetics. Key exterior modifications include:

• One-off body kit with a sculpted hood scoop
• Custom wrap in deep purple—a nod to the Japanese word “nasu,” meaning “eggplant”
• Rock sliders and cargo basket for rugged functionality
• Articulating roof rack designed for overlanding setups
• Custom drawer system and slide-out refrigerator in the cargo area

Together, these additions convert the Corolla Cross from a commuter into an outdoor utility vehicle suited for camping, biking, or long road trips.

Lighting and Visibility Upgrades

SPAD engineers integrated modified Toyota lightbars and fog lamps for improved visibility on unpaved roads. Inside and outside, illuminated door sills, puddle lamps, and cargo sills enhance night usability. These lighting improvements aren’t just aesthetic—they serve a practical role for campers and late-night adventurers.

Interior Built for Function

The interior updates mirror Toyota’s outdoor design philosophy. The cargo management system maximizes space, while the onboard refrigerator adds long-trip convenience. Cabin lighting supports low-light environments without compromising visibility.

On the roof, a custom downhill mountain bike, inspired by Asa Vermette’s championship bike, connects the concept directly to the cycling community—cementing its active-lifestyle credibility.

The Nasu Edition serves as a statement that Toyota’s adventurous design approach isn’t limited to trucks and SUVs.

Mike Tripp, Toyota’s Group VP of Marketing, noted that the project demonstrates how Toyota empowers customers to “do more, explore more, and achieve more.” The Nasu Edition proves that hybrid vehicles can embody capability and adventure without compromising daily usability.
