The police arrested, this Tuesday morning, a team of car thieves in a camp for travelers from Vernouillet, France. The police arrested ten people. Five men, aged 25 to 30, were placed in police custody in the process of theft by an organized gang and criminal association. They are suspected of having stolen more than fifty Peugeot 3008 and 5008 in the Paris region, before selling them abroad in spare parts. The traffic had been going on for several months and the damage is estimated at around one million euros.
This operation is the first result of an investigation that started several weeks ago. Since the beginning of November, police have noted an increase in the theft of Peugeot SUVs. It was always the same: the perpetrators first spotted these cars, worth 25,000 to 30,000 €, in the street before opening and starting them thanks to a fraudulent electronic system. The vehicles were then dismantled and sold as spare parts in Poland.
