The 2023 Toyota Crown is a new model that replaces the Avalon as Toyota's flagship sedan in the US market. It is a hybrid sedan with a lifted body style that combines the executive styling of a premium sedan, the flowing shape of a sports car, and the elevated cabin of an SUV. The Crown offers two hybrid powertrain options, standard all-wheel drive, many modern techs, and an unorthodox design to appeal to adventurous drivers who want something different from the typical sedan.
The base powertrain is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors that produce a combined output of 236 horsepower. The Platinum trim comes with a more powerful Hybrid Max powertrain consisting of a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine and two electric motors that deliver 340 horsepower. Both powertrains are mated to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT), featuring three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.
