2022 Skoda Karoq gets a fresh design, improved aerodynamics, and sustainable materials

2022 Skoda Karoq

With a fresh design, improved aerodynamics, and sustainable materials in the interior of the new Skoda Karoq, Skoda Auto is further developing its design language and making the SUV even more striking. In addition to the broader, now hexagonal Skoda grille, narrower lights at the front and rear, and aerodynamically optimized light-alloy wheels set new visual accents. Furthermore, new light-alloy wheels with aero inserts made of black plastic, side finlets next to the rear window, and a new rear spoiler for better vehicle aerodynamics. In the interior, Skoda Karoq uses new covers made from sustainable materials. New technologies are also finding their way, such as the matrix LED main headlights available for the first time in the Skoda Karoq and an expanded range of assistance systems.

With the Karoq, Skoda presented the second model in its SUV family in 2017. It combines the brand values typical of Skoda and, in addition to particularly generous space, also offers a high level of practicality and an excellent price-performance ratio. The Skoda Karoq is currently available in 60 countries around the world and is produced in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, and China.

The refined design language of the Skoda SUV models also characterizes the updated Skoda Karoq.

The front headlights, like the rear lights, are now drawn narrower. They have four-eyes illuminated graphics and are available for the first time with LED matrix technology.

Oliver Stefani, Head of Skoda Design, says: "The refreshed Skoda Karoq is now much more confident. The wider, hexagonal grille and the new bumper make the front look more concise. In addition, the flatter, newly arranged LED headlights with four-eye light graphics ensure a more dynamic look. The redesigned taillights underline this impression also in the rearview of the vehicle, and the new rear spoiler extends the profile of the KAROQ. "

The newly designed and three-dimensionally modeled bumper is in the vehicle color, and the wide lower air inlet has a crystalline grid structure. The side, L-shaped end elements are visually reminiscent of Air Curtains, and a robust, black-grained front spoiler completes the front section. The air curtains in the front apron guide the air laterally through the front bumper and the front wheels and reduce air turbulence and currents. In addition, to reduce the air resistance on the underbody, the Skoda Karoq, combined with all-wheel drive, has aerodynamically optimized tank panels that cover the rear axle.

The significantly slimmer front headlights connect directly to the grill. The dynamic appearance is also underlined by the newly designed daytime running lights, which are now divided into two parts. In addition, Skoda is offering Matrix LED main headlights for the Skoda Karoq for the first time in the optional top version of the front headlights. Two LED light modules are arranged one above the other in both headlights. Both are responsible for the low and high beams and ensure a striking four-eye light graphic, especially in driving light mode in the dark. In the standard version, the Skoda Karoq already has LED modules in the upper headlight as standard, while separate fog lamps are arranged in the lower housing.

The redesigned rear of the Skoda Karoq is now adorned with a more extended rear spoiler painted in the vehicle color, which visually stretches the vehicle's side view. Together with side finlets, the function of which is also known from aircraft construction, it reduces the air turbulence behind the vehicle, improves aerodynamics, and lowers CO2 emissions. The redesigned rear apron below the loading sill is in the same color as the vehicle, and the black, sturdy plastic rear diffuser has a striking relief graphic. The Skoda designers have also redesigned the rear lights of the Skoda Karoq. They are drawn more sharply and are already made with LED technology as standard. From the Ambition equipment line onwards, they have dynamic indicators and an animated welcome effect. In addition to the crystalline structures, the characteristic C-light graphic is typical of Skoda.

For the first time, a total of nine colors are available for the new Skoda Karoq, including the two metallic paint finishes, Phoenix Orange and Graphite Gray. In addition, three new light-alloy wheels improve aerodynamics: Scutus (17 inches) and Sagitarius (19 inches) have aero inserts made of black plastic that reduces air turbulence around the wheels. The 18-inch Miran wheels are also aerodynamically optimized.

2022 Skoda Karoq is available in Active, Ambition, and Style equipment and a SPORTLINE model. The radiator grille, roof rails, and window frames are painted in gloss black as standard. The new KAROQ is 4,390 millimeters long, 1,841 millimeters wide, and the wheelbase is 2,638 millimeters for models with front-wheel drive and 2,630 millimeters for models with all-wheel drive. The trunk volume is still 521 liters with standard seats and 1,630 liters with the rear seatbacks folded down. With VarioFlex seats, the luggage compartment volume is 588 liters or 1,605 liters with the rear backrests folded down and 1,810 liters with the rear seats removed.

With the Eco package, Skoda offers a particularly sustainable equipment option for the updated Skoda Karoq: The covers have applications made from vegan, leather-like materials, the specific armrests are made of microfiber and are exclusively in mocha brown. The Nisha decorative strips with a soft surface in the door panels always complement the extended LED ambient lighting. It illuminates the footwell in white as well as the front and now also the rear door panels in ten different colors. The Unique Chrome decorative strip is now available on the instrument panel. The door panels are now adorned with strips in the designs.

In the Skoda Karoq SPORTLINE, door strips with a carbon look, sports seats with integrated headrests, and a multifunction sports steering wheel with three spokes characterize the interior.

In addition to new decors and covers, the refreshed Skoda Karoq offers additional comfort for passengers. From the Style equipment line, electrical adjustment, including a memory function, is optionally available for the first time for the front passenger seat. The integrated memory function saves the personal settings and calls them up again at any time at the push of a button. In addition, the lumbar support on both front seats can be operated electrically and adapted to the needs of the driver and front passenger. The variable seat concept VarioFlex is also available on request. Here the three elements of the rear bench are divided in a ratio of 40:20:40.

The Bolero, Amundsen, and Columbus infotainment systems are based on the third generation of the modular infotainment kit from the Volkswagen Group. They enable digital DAB radio reception and are always online with an integrated eSIM. The Bolero and Amundsen systems have an 8.0-inch touchscreen and, thanks to the permanent internet connection, also receive web radio as an option. It is operated using the touch display, buttons, and knurled wheels on the multifunction steering wheels and with the help of Laura, the digital voice assistant. With online support, she understands 15 languages. The top system Columbus shows the information on a 9.2-inch display. Map and software updates are imported over the air '. The basic Swing radio has a 6.5-inch display.

In 2022, the KAROQ will only be offered with a digital instrument cluster. The 8-inch display replaces the previous analog instruments. In addition, the so-called "Virtual Cockpit" is optionally available from the Ambition equipment line with a 10.25-inch display. It offers five different basic views and can be configured individually.

The 2022 Skoda Karoq offers access to comprehensive mobile online services from Skoda Karoq Connect. For example, online infotainment services enable remote access to the vehicle via the MySKODA app. This allows the Skoda Karoq to be locked and unlocked using the smartphone. The online features in the new Skoda Karoq also include infotainment apps. They display the latest news or weather reports and connect a personal Google calendar to the vehicle. Smartphones can be wirelessly integrated using wireless SmartLink technology, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay and can also be charged inductively using the optional Phonebox.

Up to nine airbags protect the passengers in the Skoda Karoq. Driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, head airbags, and a knee airbag for the driver are already standard equipment in European Union countries. In addition, the side airbags for the second row of seats are available as an option together with the proactive occupant protection. When vehicle sensors - now also at the rear - detect an impending collision or register emergency or panic braking, it automatically closes open windows and, if necessary, the panoramic roof activates the hazard warning lights. After a collision, the multi-collision brake stops the vehicle and prevents it from rolling further in an uncontrolled manner.

The standard equipment includes the front radar assistant with city emergency braking function and predictive pedestrian protection. The optional Travel Assist includes several assistance systems, some of which are also available individually. It is available in two versions and, in both cases, consists of the predictive adaptive distance assistant. This uses recordings from the camera on the windshield and data from the navigation system and, if required, reacts to speed limits or curves at an early stage. Other components of Travel Assist are an even more precise version of the traffic sign recognition thanks to an improved camera and the adaptive lane departure warning, which also recognizes roadworks and all lane boundaries, a traffic jam assistant, and the emergency assistant.

The extended version of Travel Assist also offers the Park Assist and Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert. It warns of vehicles approaching from behind up to a distance of 70 meters. The Travel Assist uses hand recognition to check whether the driver touches the steering wheel at least every 15 seconds or whether he can no longer control the car due to a medical emergency. In this case, the emergency assistant activates the danger warning lights and brakes the car in the current lane to a standstill. The integrated maneuvering brake function Maneuver Assist detects obstacles in front of and behind the car and brakes them automatically if necessary; the 360-degree image of the optional area view system and the trailer maneuvering assistant, which is available on request, offer convenient assistance when parking. @via Skoda.

The new Skoda Karoq will come onto the market later in 2022.
