New Skoda Epiq: A $29,700 Electric SUV with 430km Range

Skoda Epiq 2026

Brand

  • Skoda

The automotive market demands a low-cost electric vehicle that does not compromise on utility. Skoda answers with the 2026 Skoda Epiq. This all-electric city SUV crossover targets a starting price of approximately $29,700 (€25,000). It enters a competitive segment currently dominated by expensive alternatives and compact hatchbacks.

Skoda Epiq 2026

Skoda positions the Epiq as the entry point to its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup. It measures 4.1 meters (161 inches) in length. Despite the small footprint, it offers a 475-liter (16.8 cubic feet) trunk capacity. This exceeds the storage space of the gas-powered Skoda Kamiq by 75 liters. The Epiq utilizes the MEB Entry platform, a front-wheel-drive architecture shared with the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Cupra Raval.

Performance and Powertrain Options

The 2026 Skoda Epiq offers three distinct power levels. All variants utilize a single motor driving the front wheels.

The Epiq 35 and Epiq 40 use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. LFP batteries cost less to produce and offer higher cycle life. They tolerate high heat well but charge slower in cold climates. The Epiq 55 uses Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistry. This provides higher energy density and faster DC charging speeds.

Charging Speed and Infrastructure Compatibility

Charging performance varies significantly across the Epiq lineup. Buyers must choose based on their driving habits and access to home charging.

  • Epiq 35: Supports DC fast charging at 50 kW. This variant targets urban users who primarily charge overnight.
  • Epiq 40: Increases DC charging to 90 kW. A 10% to 80% charge takes roughly 28 minutes.
  • Epiq 55: Features a peak DC charge rate of 133 kW. It reaches 80% capacity in 23 minutes.

All models include an 11 kW AC onboard charger. This allows for a full charge in approximately 4 to 6 hours using a standard Level 2 wallbox. The MEB Entry platform also supports bidirectional charging. This includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities. Owners can power external devices or supply electricity back to their homes during peak hours.

Modern Solid Design Language

The 2026 Skoda Epiq debuts the Modern Solid design philosophy. It replaces the traditional grille with a Tech-Deck Face. This gloss black panel hides ADAS sensors, including radar and ultrasonic sensors.

Exterior Features

  • T-shaped LED lighting: The front and rear feature a distinct light signature.
  • Matrix LED Headlights: High-end trims offer adaptive beam technology.
  • Rugged Aesthetics: Large wheel arches and integrated roof rails emphasize the SUV character.
  • Aerodynamics: The sculpted hood and optimized wheels reduce drag to maximize electric range.

The vehicle measures 1.80 meters (70.8 inches) wide and 1.62 meters (63.8 inches) tall. The 2.60-meter (102.4-inch) wheelbase matches the Volkswagen ID. Polo. This long wheelbase relative to the total length creates a spacious cabin.

Interior Technology and Practicality

Skoda prioritizes UX design and functional simplicity. The interior uses 100% recycled PES textiles.

Digital Interface

  1. 5.3-inch Driver Display: Provides essential data like speed and battery percentage.
  2. 13-inch Central Infotainment: Handles navigation, media, and vehicle settings.
  3. Physical Controls: Unlike recent Volkswagen models, the Epiq retains physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels. This improves ease of use while driving.

Simply Clever Solutions

Skoda includes its signature Simply Clever features to improve the customer experience.

  • Wireless smartphone charging in the center console.
  • Hidden underfloor compartments for charging cables.
  • Integrated bag hooks and fasteners in the trunk.
  • 475-liter cargo volume, expanding to 1,344 liters with the rear seats folded.

Market Positioning and Competition

The Skoda Epiq competes in the growing affordable EV market. It faces internal competition from the Volkswagen ID. Cross and external pressure from Chinese manufacturers.

The Epiq holds a cargo advantage over most rivals. Its 475-liter trunk beats the Hyundai Inster and Citroen e-C3. It provides a more versatile package for families than the Cupra Raval hatchback.

Manufacturing and Availability

Volkswagen Group will produce the Skoda Epiq in Pamplona, Spain. This facility serves as the hub for the Electric Urban Car Family.

  • Production Start: Early 2026.
  • Global Debut: Mid-2026.
  • European Delivery: Late 2026.
  • Australian Launch: Scheduled for 2027.

Skoda has not confirmed a North American release. The Epiq focuses on European and emerging markets where compact SUVs dominate sales.

Driving Dynamics and Safety

The 2026 Skoda Epiq 55 delivers 208 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque. This allows for a 7.4-second 0-100 km/h sprint. The LFP models are slower but sufficient for city traffic.

Safety Systems

The Tech-Deck Face integrates Travel Assist 3.0. This suite includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with lane centering.
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition.

The vehicle's kerb weight is approximately 1,544 kg (3,404 lbs). This is heavy for a subcompact but light for an EV. The low center of gravity from the floor-mounted battery improves cornering stability.

The Verdict on the Skoda Epiq

The 2026 Skoda Epiq solves the primary hurdle for electric vehicle adoption: price. By offering a sub-$30,000 electric SUV with over 400 km of range, Skoda targets the mass market. The combination of LFP battery technology for budget buyers and NMC for long-distance drivers provides necessary flexibility.

The Epiq avoids the "tech-only" trap. It maintains physical buttons and practical storage. It is a data-driven response to consumer needs. It offers more space than a Kamiq for a similar price point after subsidies. For buyers ready to switch to electric, the Epiq represents a logical, results-oriented choice.
