This year, the new Peugeot 308 is available in two plug-in hybrid powertrain options. The French car manufacturer also revealed last year that they would sell a fully electric version of the tiny vehicle and the SW station wagon variant in the future. However, according to rumors, the Peugeot e-308 electric car will join the pure combustion and plug-in hybrid models in 2023. Like Peugeot's other electric vehicles, the engine, onboard charger, and heat pump would all be housed under the hood. The battery is positioned beneath the vehicle's floor, primarily beneath the seats. The trunk will be the same size as the trunk of the Peugeot 308 Plug-in Hybrid.
The Autocar car portal says that the Peugeot e-308 will only be available with a front-wheel-drive option. It will be equipped with a battery with a functional capacity of 50 kWh (54 kWh gross). The electric engine is expected to produce 113 kW (154 hp), 13 kW (18 hp) higher than the already existing Peugeot e-208 electric vehicle. The fully-electric Peugeot 308 should weigh roughly 1600 kilos, the same as the semi-electric variant.
Although the Peugeot e-308's battery has just 4 kWh greater storage capacity than the Peugeot e-208's, Peugeot claims it will have better efficiency of 12.4 kWh/100 km – "the best among competitors," according to 308 project manager Agnès Tesson-Faget Autocar. This should give the Peugeot e-308 a range of roughly 400 kilometers in the WLTP, whereas the lighter Peugeot e-208 has a range of 362 kilometers. In addition, the new Peugeot 308 electric car should be able to charge with up to 100 kW, allowing it to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes.
Peugeot anticipates electrified variants will account for a significant share of 308 series sales. "If we look at our portfolio now, the plug-in currently accounts for more than 20% of orders, and we expect the electric version to account for at least that percentage".
The Peugeot e-308 electric car is set to enter manufacturing in July 2023 and be delivered soon. Prices are expected to be more than those for the plug-in hybrid variants, which start at 36,900 euros.
